This scratch-build is based on techniques used by some of my German friends. I was able to obtain the original builder's drawings from Bowling Green State University. The Kearsarge was built in Chicago in 1894 by Chicago Shipbuilding Co. for Pickands, Mather; and was their first freighter. This is the genesis of the current Interlake Steamship Co.
The basic technique is simple. the drawings are rescaled to 1/200 scale, and then cut up to use as templates. The templates are then laminated to Strathmore bristol board and cut out. The deck and keel pieces are than carefully aligned.
