Hi everybody,
I have been a member since 27th December 2007, on and off, but I got more and more active in here those last weeks and probably will be in the future. Finally time to formally introduce myself!
Born in 1964 in northern Bavaria / Germany, mostly doing administrative work in a school for handicapped children i Marburg / Hessen, but also driving a school bus. My original training was acting and directing, but jobs in this sector are very hard to find. I admit, I feel quite happy in my present occupation.
Already as a kid I got in contact with paper modeling through my father, who was doing this as long as I can remember and even before I was born. He very much was into ships, something I never really got around to.
I chose airplanes instead and as a kid I built many of those classic Schreiber and Wilhelmshaven kits that still were available in hobby shops in Germany until the 1980-ies.
Interest faded when I had finished school and mostly lived out of my backpack until I had finished studying around 1993. Searching for a job, I suddenly found myself with lots of time on my hands. Seeing this, my father gave me some of the kits he probably never would build and slowly interest in this old passion returned. It has been with me ever since and it got another boost when discovering some internet forums (fora?). Seeing some superbly built paper models, learning a lot from them and discussing them really got me going again.
My main interests in paper modeling are civilian vehicles (= cars and lorries) and aircraft. In spite of being a very peaceful man who abhors violence of any kind, I hold a fascination with fighters of WW II: Simply beautiful aircraft!
Amongst my other hobbies: Playing the classical guitar since 1981 (mostly flamenco, but also singer-songwriters like Gordon Lightfoot, Jim Croce, Leo Cohen, Simon and Garfunkel etc.), my cats and riding my recumbent bikes.
I have experienced this forum as a very friendly, easy-going bunch of enthusiasts. I hope I can contribute my part!
Cheers, Martin
