I'm currently working on my third paper model, I'm building some of the Canon one-page animals as was kindly suggested to me by Vermin King.
I'm concerned with colouring the edges of the paper, not the printed surface or the opposite side, but the skinny in-between part that will show as a thin white line if not corrected. I've tried felt pens, but find that the ink soaks in and shows through the printed surface. I've tried watercolour, but seem to lack the necessary skills. Pencil crayons seem almost the right solution for me.
If only the pencil crayons were a bit softer they'd be just about ideal. I find that in order to colour (in particular) the ends of the edges I must press too hard and/or repeat too many times, such that the paper is somewhat deformed by the time it looks good. Well, by the time it would have looked good, were it not deformed.
I've tried dipping the pencils in isopropanol and letting them sit overnight, however this doesn't seem to have softened the 'lead' at all. Does anyone know what, if anything, they might be soaked in that would result in a softer pencil which would transfer the necessary colour with less pressure / fewer repetitions?
Any help would be much appreciated.
