This thread came about because I bought a conventional solid hull wood model kit.
After trying to shape the hull I realized that I wasn't liking the process at all.
The hull lines were included so it occurred to me that I could maybe make a paper model type hull instead. This is as far as I have got so far.
I am using 1/32 (0.8 mm) plywood for the frame. It can be cut with scissors.
The top of the frames is the deck level.
The top horizontal (level E) is at the water line level. The other is at level C.
I have no idea if this will work. I am just making it up as I go along.
The Fanny Gorham was a shallow draft trading schooner. She would carry lumber out
and goods on the return. The shallow draft allowed to go into smaller harbors.
She carry's a centerboard to replace a deep keel. Because of the centerboard trunk
the centerboard is offset to starboard to clear the keel and the main mast is offset
to port. The holes in the deck are for the masts with the main off to the left.
The last two photos show the centerboard in the lowered position.
