Well, about six months ago I posted the last thing I had built, the Imperial Shuttle,
I decided it was time to build something.
Being a retired A-10 hawg dawg (crew chief), when Bruno (scissorsandplanes)
released his A-10, I knew the path I would take.
Having built a super detailed A-10 and YA-10B conversion in plastic, I always
wanted a YA-10, and here was my chance.
With the help of John Bowden, who gave me the outlines and some markings to
work with, I started to modify the kit. There are some significant differences in the
YA-10 at its roll out ceremony, and production A-10s.
I will talk about those as the build progresses.
Here in the first few pictures, I have started on the fuselage. Pic 1 is the parts and
glue strips. I cut off the integral glue tabs, and printed a second copy on bond paper to allow
a smoother transition between segments.
In Pic 2, these are some formers I made from a cross section view I found. I wanted to
attempt to give a little more defined shape to the model. With this idea, I also had some
missteps, which will resolve themselves as I build further versions.
Pic 3 is the completed fuselage, and Pic 4 is with the canopy installed.
Here, we talk about one of the first things that make the YA-10 different. I did not
install the 30mm cannon parts, as GAU-8 30mm cannon was not yet ready,
so a 20mm cannon was built into the aircraft.
