Perhaps one of the oldest railway items - certainly one of the first steam engines, built about 1804
A friend sent me pictures of a model of this loco and the only one I could think of was from Glue2 - I'd made some of their Heironymus Bosch figures, and remembered the Loco. I hadn't thought about making it because it was more of an exercise in making workable cogs than a detailed model of the loco. However it was steam related so I decided to have a go.
I ordered the "kit" but it is more "templates" - the outlines are on a white background. I didn't want a white model and after a bit of thought I bought a sheet of card, coloured to the approximate colour I wanted. First I had to cut the sheet to A4, then I realised that the template was too feint to see on a dark background. I contacted Atom and he very kindly sent me a new PDF with bolder lines. As you will see from the photo, it was still feint, but just about visible with my light at the right angle.
As I said, it is more about moving cogs, so there is not much detail - but this is offset by being a moving model.
The second picture is my set-up to ensure that the two rods are symmetrical when passing through three separate panels. The rods are wooden skewers.
I also made a base, just long enough to show off the movement.
The build of the cogs is quite intricate but the rest is straight forward. It was an enjoyable build and my thanks go to Atom for his help with the PDF.
Cheers
Mike
