Hi,
this is my first appearance here, so forgive any mistakes. As English is not my native language, be merciful :)
Grosse Jacht (also called "Golden Yacht" or "New Yacht") was built under the direction of Gillis W. Pickelhering in Polish city of Kolberg in the years 1678 to 1679 for the Elector of Brandenburg Friedrich Wilhelm. It was modeled on a seagoing yacht Willem III of Oranje (I'm not a historian, so if mixed titles, please those gentlemen for forgiveness). Other sources say, that she was rather a prototype for a yacht of this second gentleman. A little is known about Grosse Jacht: length 70 or 72 feet, wide 21 feet, armed with 6 (10?) threepounders. The crew consists of 15 people, and in the case of war, even 50 men. The yacht sailed a little (Amsterdam, London) and by the end of the century stayed in Berlin. In 1721 she was demolished.
I used plans from ""Risse von Schiffen des 16. und 17. Jahrhunderts". The plans are not perfect (Berlin, 1940), so many details are missed.
I used 1 mm cardboard for frames. The deck and "less important" construction parts are made of 0,5 mm cardboard. My plan is to make her without paints, so every coloured parts are printed as "ready to use".
I decided to make two layers of "false" planking: first "vertical" then "horizontal". The third final layer is made of 0,5 mm cardboard.
Decorations and sculptures are made of different thickness cardboard, thick glue and then painted gold.
The artillery is not made perfect, but it is small enough to not forgive mistakes. The most difficult parts were double blocks of 1,7 mm long.
Now I'm working on anchors and some details on the deck (cleats, a galion, a lantern and so on) and on rigging.
Seahorse
Ps. Still don't know how pictures should be put into text: confused:
