Neuschwanstein

Also known as the fantasy castle of “mad” Ludwig of Bavaria. Although I'm not sue he was mad – in England he would be eccentric and wouldn't have drowned in strange circumstances while under the protection of the police. Anyone remember the film “The Ruling Class”?

Anyway, less politics more modelling.

This is the second version of the castle by Schreiber, the original was much bigger and the walls were a dirty grey. This version is 59cm long by 30cm tall.

The first steps are to reinforce various parts with the supplied card 1mm thick. All the parts to be reinforced are on A4 sheets which makes life easy. As the instructions say it is important to get the base walls right as the rest of the building sits on these parts. Rather than just glue the two base parts together, I have glued them to sheet of card and cut out the few access points.

The first two coloured parts are the two floors. The lower one reminds me of our visit to the castle. There were too many people and we purchased timed tickets and were assigned to a “cattle pen”.

The guides would open the pen and lead their group into the castle for a whirlwind tour – stay in one room more than a minute over your allotted time and you would be crushed by the next group.

At this point it's difficult to tell how good the parts are – perhaps I'll find out as I progress.

Cheers
Mike
