Oh, Look Something SHINY!

Expensive route, but I finally found something shiny after several months of searching (ok-a couple of years).

Found some Silver Mirror Wall Paper made in China. It has a adhesive backing. The adhesive is very strong when bonding to cardstock! Ruined a couple of pieces before I found away to get it on without major air bubbles.

Used some Inkaid Gloss II product to get it to hold ink from an inkjet.

This is the first time using Inkaid, must say I'm impressed. Chose the Gloss II after reading about what it could do on Inkaid's website. Works on non-porous surfaces, and has an adhesive formulated into it.

Here are some photos,. looks way sharper, brighter than the photos show. Once this F-104 Stomp rocket is completed, will take outside in the sun to show what it really looks like. Inside under flourescents, doesn't do it any justice!

Photo 2 Just in case Dave missed seeing the P-47 parts from Lucky in photo 1! (Yes, I'm still working on it-all the laminated parts are laminated and cut out)

Photo 3 Shiny rudder almost looks white from the reflection. Next photo will show it close-up!

The bad:
Used Index 110# for the cardstock. Index 90# would have been easier to work with. To glue the fuselage halves together, I carefully cut the silver off from the glue tabs and peeled it back. Removed a layer of cardstock when peeling it off.

Real hard to form parts.

Not sure if glue will stick to it. Will test that next with some scrap pieces.

One issue is the PVA used to glue the fuselage together, removed the Inkaid and smeared it as well. Does not rub off like it does on cardstock. You can see this in photo 5.

Looks exactly like polished aluminum!
