How I'm spending my Memorial Day weekend. One of my longest time friend and model

building buddy over in Orange County, Don Drummer, passed away a little over a month ago. I know there are a couple of Orange County IPMS members on here that probably would have at least know him on sight. Anyway the friend that is the executor for his estate was able to get down from Northern Cal this weekend. So I headed over Friday and meet up at Don's house Sat. with several other friends from OC and San Diego to start trying to clear the models and books from his house. Found a few things that I'd loaned him and hadn't got back before I relocated to AZ, some things I've given him as gifts, and more books then I realized he'd had. He was a borderline hoarder, so we had to go through boxes of cancelled checks, receipts, utility bills, to try and sort things. He was a teacher and worked summers at Disneyland for years. So he had hundreds of Disney books and collectibles.
Unfortunately with coming down with Lupus about 30 years ago and some other health issues, he never really got to work on the models much. Even though he kept buying kits, tools, reference books and magazine (don't think he ever threw a magazine away). etc., etc., etc. Just going through a stack of the old pocket size car magazine from the 50's that I brought home. Also a Unimat lathe that hadn't even been open. An air compressor along with a couple of airbrushes, never been used. In a couple of weeks we're going to try to clear a storage unit in San Diego that he'd told the executor about a year ago that he'd moved around a thousand models down there. Plus 2 more units in OC that are supposedly mainly magazines. At least he'd closed the other 2 units in Anaheim when he'd sold a couple of cars a few years ago.
Anyway that's really slapped me up the side of the head about getting serious on weeding my collection down. Since like I sure most of us I've got more models (plastic, paper, resin and metal) then I'd get build if I lived another 60 years...and didn't nothing else but sit at the bench 12 hours a day. And I've got a lot of other things I'd like to do; and not even being that social, people I'd like to spend time with. Enough of my rambling, I need to get back to sorting through books.
