Hello gentlemen!
A liitle project from long weekend of May day. I've been wanting to build Modele-kartonowe's I-16 for a long time, which available in 3 liveries, all of them VVS markings, however i wanted to build something different, and so my choice fell to I-16 'Rata/Mosca' used by Spanish air force during Spanish civil war and WW2.
The problem is, type used by Spanish air force is different from type offered by Modele-kartonowe (type 10 and type 24 respectively) and thus in addition to some repaint i should do some modification. Source used for this mods is mainly from article on 'Modeling the VVS' site and various period photos on internet
Some differences of both types includes:
- absence of starboard cockpit and radio access door on type 10
- absence of upper cowling intake on type 10
- type 10 have conical-shaped spinner (for M-25V engine) instead of rounded one on type 24 (M-63 engine)
- type 10 use tail skid instead of wheel
- type 10 have 8 exhaust ports instead of 6 on type 24
- type 24 have under-cowling blister for improved oil cooler
Livery-wise, the aircraft i planned to build is registered as 1-W-30 of 26 Gruppo de Caza, 1W code denotes a captured aircraft
Overall colour is presumably AII Green including undersides, except cowling and stabilizers, which are silver
And here's some progress of the build
