On Monday will be available new WAK model:
Batory - polish ocean liner 1936-1939 in scale 1:200.

In 1932 Polish Transatlantic Ship Assosiaction (Polskie Transatlantyckie Towarzystwo Okrętowe, named GAL since 1934) decided to order two modern ocean liners. The auction was won by the Monfalcone Shipyard and in 1934 they started to build M/S Piłsudski. In July 1935, the other ship was launched. Originally to be called M/S Kościuszko, she was named M/S Batory by the Polish government after the Polish king Stefan Batory (Stephen Báthory - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia). Her first cruise across the Atlantic to New York started on 18 May 1936. Till WWII the ship completed 38 cruises and finished the 39th one on 5 September 1939 in America.
During WWII M/S Batory served as a troop transport and landing ship. She survived the war (M/S Piłsudski sank in autumn 1939 because of mines) and in 1946 was directed to the shipyard in Antwerp to be refurbished for civilian service. In 1951 it became the property of Polish Ocean Lines. Till 1969, M/S Batory sailed on the North Atlantic, Pakistan- India and Canadian routes as a cruise ship. On 11 march 1971 she was sold and scrapped in Hong Kong.
M/S Batory completed 222 routes transporting 270 thousand passengers. At wartime she transported 120 thousand soldiers and civilians during 59 routes. Also, she completed 75 criuses transporting around 30 thousand passengers.
Model designer is Zbigniew Sałapa.
