My great friend Phil (Gixergs) sent me this model for my birthday last month. It is one of the latest offerings from the venerable plastic-model company Airfix, part of their "Quick-Build" series that uses Lego-style connections, coupled with smooth pre-colored exterior surfaces to enable a young person, or older person who refuses to grow entirely up, to quickly build a realistic-looking model. Aimed primarily at younger or beginning modelers, they are also sturdy enough for heavy play.
This kit builds a BAE Hawk of the RAF, and comes with stick-on markings and a display stand. the builder has the option of snapping on the ventral gun pack instead of the stand; they mount to the same lug.
The package and all-pictorial instruction leaflet indicate that the product is intended for ages five and up. Being 51, I had to take it apart and re-build it six times to get everything to fit together properly, and I still had two parts left over! But in the end, it looks like a hawk, looks quite nice on its stand, and I had a very good time putting it together and being a kid again for a little while. Thanks Phil- you're the best, pard!
