Is is my first design project, as well as first experience with Blender, Pepakura and Illustrator. Previous work in SketchUp and Photoshop helped, but it's still quite a learning curve.
The inspiration: boat chase scene from Indian Jones and The Last Crusade:
I don't know the exact make or model of the boat, but I've seen mentions of Hacker-Craft, which appears to look quite similar. I dug up some plans and photos (of different boats):
Made this in blender:
Edit and color in illustrator (not the final layout yet, most of the small parts missing):
Beta builds 1 and 2 (after stress-test by toddler =) :
State of the project:
- Made adjustments after beta 2, the hull should fit pretty snugly now. Raised the waterline a little. Made cockpits and seats a little smaller; initially I have failed to take the paper thickness into account.
- Missing: windshield, vents, handles, light, motor.
- Scale is 1:35, intended for 0.25mm paper (I use staples photo supreme; I don't remember the weight). Everything including textures is vector for ease of scaling.
- I intend to make 2 (or 4) versions: engine compartment closed (former 10-13 solid, beta 1) and open(able) option with doors and motor (beta 2). Both as full hull and waterline models. Does anyone has any specific information about the motor? I found a few pictures looking more or less like so:
I kind of got sick of it and decided to build something else for a bit, so third bete is pending for now. I do intend to finish and release it free of charge for anyone to enjoy.
Stay tuned for updates :p
