Hi all, this is the Fiddlers Green Pinta. I was inspired to make it after seeing a replica Portuegese Caravel in Newcastle Harbour last week. The replica was made by an Australian man over the course of eleven years, using original techniques as much as possible. As there are no plans, only paintings and wrecks to go off, there is a fair amount of freedom in making a model of one of these ships. Even in the case of Columbus' Pinta, no one really knows exactly how it looked.
The model is colourful as designed, but I wanted to make the appearance similar to the replica. The construction was very rough and ready, so that is what I aimed for. I printed the model twice on manila folder, and cut the planks of one and stuck them on the finished hull one by one. I gave it a coat of brown paint, just to see how it looks. So far so good. The next step is to put the thick framing strips on the hull.
