Any tip for wood effect

Well, I'm wanting to do the Tardis from Dr Who series and have found a model for print and assembly.
But before starting this part I would like to know how to paint the paper and get the wood appearance because I admit I tried to find some site but did not find.
I want to try to make the same effect I've seen in some assemblies boats, where the painting they do stay with this appearance of wood.
But I can not find the right website that I saw this explanation.
I think the only difference is that I will use blue ink.
