I make display cases out of Perspex obtained as offcuts from a local supplier. He is kind enough to supply solvent if I take a bottle.
I remember as a boy buying chloroform for the purpose from the chemist. Just imagine...
Perspex cuts easily with a hacksaw but you have to be very accurate. I clean up the edges and do any adjustments on a milling machine.
I use thicker material for the base and tap 6BA for brass countersunk screws.
