We are recovering from the flood here in St. Louis, Missouri. Some described it as the 500 year flood. Who was here 500 years ago? I've not lost as much as other residents locally, but it still hurts. I lost many magazines, especially ones that I had next to my (triple hard drive) computer in the basement, yes it got hit too, but I will test it out in the upcoming week or two after drying. It contained most of my paper model scans. Only a few of the printed copies were hit if they were near the floor. Almost all of my paper stock and card stock got hit. Had more than the shelves could hold and put them on the floor next to the computer.
Most of my art supplies and art papers were soaked as well (I kept a small amount for that water soaked look I will try on some of my upcoming drawings). Almost all my programming books were wonderful water soakers - had to get rid of them - they went straight to mold.
I lost two issues of 3D Artist that I had with my art supplies, Issues #6 and #7.
The 3D World Magazine issues that are damaged are: Mar 2005, Sept and Dec 2006, Feb 2008, Mar 2008, Aug and Sept 2008, Sept 2009, Nov and Dec 2009, and Jan 2010 (my fav).
I tried to dry them but many are very damaged, like ImagineFX issues Feb 2006, Oct 2006, Aug 2007, Dec 2007, Dec 2008, May 2009 (fav), Jan 2010, Mar 2010. Haven't tried the discs yet , but miss the wonderful articles.
Other magazines were some of the National Geographics that I recieved as a subscription from my grandmother when I was younger. I also lost a few Aviation and Space Weekly Magazines from the early 60's, .... good history there. I found what I call my Box of Memories - catch my story on LinkedIn: Tell Me Something About Yourself - Brief Passages from My Box of Memories.
Anyone have some affordable sources to be able to get copies of these issues? I've already written to each of the publisher's, but have not heard back yet. Time for a used book store tour. Lesson learned. The original shelves could not hold the weight of all the books and magazines, so I am putting several new shelves and pallets together to prevent future disasters for the next 500 years. (It will take that long to build everything that I have in my to-do pile).
