This was my Washington, DC blizzard project: Airway Beacon 41 in Ottawa Co, Oklahoma circa 1935. It's one of Aaron's Oddballs, now available at Ecardmodels. I believe the scale is 1/68 or so.
I didn't do much other than cut out all those *&^%$#@ triangles on the tower and rectangles on the ladder. I kitbashed the generator fuel tank from plastic parts and wound up painting the entire tower with acrylics.
Long before radar, VORs, DMEs, etc., this is how pilots,navigated long-distance air routes. At Beacon 41, the large concrete arrow pointed toward Oklahoma City. More info on this FB page: http://ift.tt/1QQICti
