This is not a build thread of the Unseen University paper model, just a small log of a journey trying to get the spheres on the High Energy Magic Building to look like freakin' spheres.
They have been worked on at various times throughout these many years with the results, shall we say, less than acceptable. In fact they looked like cwrap. Many different techniques were used with basically the same result.
So recently a dapping block with some dapping punches were used to try to get compound curves into the petals to form them and make them individually take on the shape of 1/8 of a sphere. The instructions from the book were used and at first it looked like a winning combination was obtained:
However, on further inspection it was noted that the sphere in question was indeed lopsided once again:
It does not look too bad in the photo, but it is indeed another failure in the attempt. One side looks nice and round, but when turned a distinct flatness can be perceived. Years wasted and dreams unfulfilled.
So something different was tried and the results were an actual spherey looking thingy:
Here is a comparison shot of the final and penultimate sphere:
So now the Sun is shining once again.:) (Not really, it has been raining all day long.)
