Irish Cottage

Working today on writing instructions for thatching a small paper model I designed a few years ago. The thatching is not paper, its natural flax fibers. But I thought with St. Patrick's Day not that far away you would enjoy seeing this little building.

The structure has double thick mat board as an inside layer as I wanted more depth for the windows and doors. The outer layer is paper. As I design in 3D CAD I can get accurate results for creating layers of materials that wrap over each other. But as I designed this project for laser cutting I have to adjust the cutting patterns to add extra on the edges in some areas to account for the kerf width where the beam burns away the materials.

The scale is 1:144. The green on the landscaping is the terrain foam material from model railroad supplies. After assembly the building was coated with marble dust & glitter mix.
