Het Loo

I thought it was about time I made the effort to tear myself away from making and send a few pictures to show I'm still "at it". Model making, that is.

One reason for the long gap is a model I've just finished it is a castle that caused problems from day one. I wasn't sure what it would look like when completed - I wasn't even sure I would get it finished. It is - so when I have time I'll send pictures.

So...... back to today. Last year my wife and I went on a canal/river cruise in Holland. One of the excursions was to an open air museum, however a few days before the holiday, the agents said that the museum was closed and they had made arrangements to visit the war museum in Arnhem. We decided not to go and I found that the Palace of Het Loo was an easy drive from our floating hotel. I hired a car and we "did" The palace on our own. It is still the home of the Dutch royal family and of more interest to us Brits, it was also the home of William of Orange who became king of England in 1689 - better know as "William and Mary". That's enough history. We greatly enjoyed the Palace and would recommend a visit if you happen to be holidaying on Holland.

- on to the model.

I realised that I like making life difficult for myself... The kit is printed on A3 card and when all the gardens are added becomes a base of 4 sheets of A3. The kit is also die cut.

I decided to have the pages reduced to A4. It wasn't till I saw the new pages that I realised that it was quite difficult to find the tabs (no black borders or dotted lines on die cuts!) Anyway, I've decided to persevere. working out where to have tabs and folds is a bit fiddly but doable.

So, here's the first of the buildings.

Cheers

Mike
