The Soviet SMK tank was one of several heavy tanks under simultaneous development. Two KV-1s, two T-100s, and the SMK were formed into an armored company and were deployed in the "Winter War" waged against Finland from November 1939 to February 1940. The 55 ton SMK was disabled by a land mine on Dec 19, 1939. Although the crew was able to repair the damaged track on site, the engine could not be restarted and the tank was abandoned, not to be recovered for two months. The KV-1 proved to be the better performer and went into full scale production. The SMK and T-100 prototypes were retired.
This 1/50 scale kit is a free download from one of the paper tank communities at VK, Eastern Europe's Facebook equivalent. It comes in both green and the winter camo scheme that I chose. It was designed by Alexey Gvozdev and alexkung71. I built it straight "out of the box" for once, with no Photoshop customization. Assembly was trouble free.
I had to enlarge my standard paper display base to accommodate this model, and added a wintery background as a finishing touch.
