I'll probably forget this on the day but the centenary of the first use of French tanks is coming up on the 16th April.
On 16 April 1917 132 Schneider CA1 tanks were committed in a series of actions around Berry-au-Bac (south of Rheims) as part of the Nivelle offensives. The first actions were less than impressive - 76 of the Schneiders were knocked out, mostly by artillery fire, and about 180 of 720 crewmen were killed.
There are models of the Schneider CA1 on Landships II designed by Wayne McCullough.
Regards,
Charlie
