Halinski 3/2004: Polikarpov I-16 1:33

Ok, here it goes; my first build thread. Now it is public and must be finished :). I plan to document this painfully slow process as a timelapse along with images.

I've bought two kits with one set of lasercut parts. Two kits because then I have a spare one if (& when) I make a huge mistake and also maybe to add some details (3d effect or such) as inspired by the build thread by JaCkyL at kartonwork.pl.

This model also serves as a training for the follow-up model I have in mind; the Halinski Brewster Buffalo B-239.

I ordered few sets of Tombow dual brush pens which I am trying to learn to use effectively as I go along. The yellow pen I have seems to be a bit too orange for the fuel tank, but can't help that anymore. Luckily the tank hides inside the plane .

I've sprayed the paper with Citadel's Purity Seal model varnish. I have no clue if I sprayed it enough or too much. I guess time will tell. One thing I learned though, was to keep the spray can upright when spraying to avoid nasty blemishes . Luckily I tried it on the model's cover first.

One thing is currently unclear to me: There are instructions to glue some of the parts either to 1mm or 0,5mm cardboard. That is clear enough. But what is card stock? What thickness is that? Is it like typical Canon 170g/m2 matte photo paper or like the paper the model is printed on which seem to be 0,22mm thick? Or does card stock maybe refer to something else?

Anyway, here is the timelapse part 1:
