Development work on the KV-3 (or objects 221, 222, 223), was started prior to the Nazi invasion of the Soviet Union. The KV-1 chassis was lengthened, and a 7th road wheel per side was added. A total of 3 chassis were completed and extensively field tested. Plans for several different turret shapes and main guns were in the works, but none were brought to fruition. Object 223 armed with a 107mm ZiS-6 cannon came the closest to being realized. A concrete mockup of its conical turret was mated to its chassis and tested, resulting in the fitting of a more powerful 850HP diesel engine. The KV-3 with the 107mm gun could have been a formidable heavy tank if the Soviets had the time needed to bring it into production.
This 1/72 scale model gets its skin directly from the World of Tanks game. My only personal modification was the addition of a red star on either side of the turret. The build was very straightforward, and the fit of each and every part was perfect. I used one of the new WoPT photo borders to display this one - I have more wall space than shelf space. I picked up the frame at the local dollar store.
