How to paint paper models

Hi guys,

I am building a "Modelik GLS30" locomotive, and would like to paint the parts before joining them with PVA glue.

I have acrylic paints with me, but they look too shiny to be true for the model.

Tha attached photo, I found off the internet has a more subtle touch to it. Can any of you guess which type of paint it might be?
