Birds from Canon Creative Park, designer Ikuo Anazawa

I was asked to make some free bird models for a nature fair and selected three birds,
Bald Eagle, Falcon and Love Birds, and have them printed out on 7 A2 sheets.
The bald eage has a wing span of over 1 meter or 36 inches and looks awesome
when I added a fish, a male salmon as its catch. The salmon is obviously not too
large as a catch but adds some vividness to the display. The falcon also attracts
lots of attention and it measures somewhere around 18 inches in wing span.
The most interesting is the love bird couple perching on a wooden looking rod
having a wonderful time telling how much they love each other.

Thanks to the designer Ikuo Anazawa for these lovely models and Canon Creative
Park for providing free downloads. It's very educational to the next generation
and the parents who seldom see any of these avian creatures in this crowded
city of Hong Kong. Lots of oohs and aahs at the scene in a fine weathered
Saturday afternoon. Thanks again Canon.

A couple of pictures of the bald eagle and falcon have been photoshopped
for more natural flight.

NoVa Model Classic 2017

The Northern Virginia Modelers Model Classic 2017 show is now in the books, and as in years past, the IPMS plastic modelers were welcoming to our paper model display, in a prime location in the main hall leading to the competition / display area. The event was held at Fairfax (Virginia, USA) High School on Saturday, April 29, 2017. Four of us set up on five tables, so we had plenty of room. I (Anne McCombs) took point with my usual miscellany of subjects and scales, plus encouraging people to take some info sheets plus a sample F-86 Sabre jet (courtesy of Scott Fyn and Fiddlers Green). John Glessner (Dr. Laser) was next with his "Tower of Terror" displays of aircraft, tanks, Lara Croft heading into danger, and the ever-popular Canon Cat. He was followed by Peter Ansoff with an assortment of large models, and Thomas Clay Davies with a few of his collection of cathedrals large and small. Herewith, a series of pictures. I'm afraid I didn't get thorough pictorial coverage -- John deserved better from me in particular -- but there's enough here to give some idea.

Wayne's Breguet XIV revisited

Hello everybody!

Here is my build of Wayne McCullough's superb Breguet XIV model, this time in Greek livery, as it may have flown over Eastern Anatolia during the ill fated 1921/23 Greek occupation.

Hello

Been a fan of paper modeling for a while, and have built a few myself. Enjoy this site!

Zarkov Beechcraft C 12 Tzufit.

My son is a pilot and one of his favorite aircraft is the Beechcraft King Air. It was his birthday today so 3 weeks ago I decided to build him a model of the King Air and from my search on the net the most detailed model I could find was of Zarkov's !/32 scale King Air's. The one I chose was the Isreali Air Forces C-12. Incidentally, Tzufit translates to Hummingbird. The model has full interior which consists of four computer workstations to cover various surveillance and spy missions and full cockpit with Flight yokes and throttle quadrant. The model went together well but is defiantly not for the beginner although someone with a few models under there belt would have few problems. The main issue I had was of little guidance per the instructions. Also the model shows a side looking Infra Red pod which is shown in the exploded views but wasn't on any of the pdf's. The wings and tail group have a built up structure with the skins wrapped around them which gives a very scale shape.
The fuselage has former's at every join to maintain accurate shape. I never had any problems with fit at all. The real aircraft has the propeller spinners painted in the same color gray as the fuselage but the spinners in this kit where uncolored so I painted them to suit (although I couldn't match the printed color perfectly). A very impressive scale like model. When I gave it to my son he thought at first sight it was a plastic model!
Thanks for looking. Daryl

1/300 Battleship Duilio

I would like to present a model that I have actually finished, except for some rigging. It is the Italian battleship Duilio.
The Duilio was built in 1876 and was the largest, fastest and most powerful battleship in the world for a while. It had 17.72 inch muzzle loading guns. The guns had to be returned to a certain position and the guns lowered to holes in the deck so the next shell could be rammed up the barrel from below. They could shoot a round every 15 minutes so there is a big question as to their usefulness if they had gone to war. The British built the HMS Inflexible as a response to the Duilio, and both ships ended up being built over a protracted period of time as each navy looked at what the other was doing and copied or modified their design to try and keep one up.
This model was a joy to build. I think the maker is Kel, and it is 1/300 scale. It is beautifully printed, although I wish they had printed the deck a more realistic colour. Also I would have preferred everything between the deck and the flying bridge to have been white, but never mind. I used all of the pieces provided, except for the lifeboat davits at the stern. For some of the types I was able to delaminate the cardboard to make it easier to roll. The instructions were just a drawing with numbers, and not every part was indicated, so there was a bit of head scratching and referring to the pictures on the internet, but more usefully other models of the Duilio. I like the pictures of the real thing, each model was different. I was not able to find a picture of this particular kit built.
There are several pictures of the Duilio on the internet, and it is slightly different in each one. It seems it was a work in progress for much of its life. This model represents it as newly finished.
