Paper/card model kits laser cut instead of cut out?

Just a thought.

As we all know, the paper/card kits available from manufacturers today are all cut out kits with some having optional laser cut sheets available for some of the parts. Having used those laser cut parts, when available, I found the kits much faster and easier to build, and I thought the results were quite a bit better.

I am curious as to why the paper model manufacturers do not provide entire kits in a laser cut form? It would be a whole lot easier to deal with the parts if they could be punched out rather than trying to cut them out. They could probably also eliminate the need for laminating if parts were printed and laser cut on the correct thickness of paper/card stock.

A long time ago my sister cut outfits from paper pages in a book with scissors for her paper dolls in order to dress them. I think kids today also have paper dolls but they punch out their clothes from the pages of the book. No scissors! A change for the better by the manufacturers or maybe even a necessary move to keep the manufacturers in business.

Is it a technology issue or a cost issue that entire laser cut paper model kits are not available? Will paper/card model kits eventually evolve to this state and make cutting them out with scissors and knife blades obsolete? If model kits were available in a laser cut form might more people get involved in this great hobby?

Any thoughts?
