As a tribute to David Bowie, whose music has been a big part of my adolescent and adult life, I have made a small model of a fantasy Mercury- derived capsule with a couple of other references to Bowie-songs incorporated. It's a little oddity in itself.
I used Carl 'Surfduke' Hewlett's Mercury interior with the recolour Sigma 7 - skin of Bob Bendorf. I added the Aladdin Sane flash and the U.K. flag and joined the hatch and the window into an opening Gemini-style hatch. I fantasized a little with the interior, since Carl never made any instructions for the build of this model.
The Ashes to Ashes Pierrot was added as if Major Tom, when he left the capsule, changed into the Pierrot. The body is made out of rolled and folded pellets of paper and the head is a thoroughly kneaded bit of styrofoam with layers of paint and a pin inside to put it on the body. For the body I used all kinds of acrylic paint, kite paper and regular paper. The base still has to be made but that will become a black star. The model is about 1/48, I think.
It's sad he's passed away, but luckily Bowie left his music behind for us. For the rest, I think his space ship knows which way to go. Fair skies, Starman.
