The ZIS trucks 5 and 6 were perhaps one of the greatest products of the second phase of Soviet industrialization of the 30s, was surely the most produced vehicle in its class in the USSR being manufactured for over 20 years and with over a million units produced up 1955. it was the main Red Army truck in the 30 and 40 used in the Great Patriotic War (as the Russians call World War II), the ZIS word is an acronym (ЗиС) means in Russian Zavod Imeni Stalina or Stalin plant, as a factory was made in 1933 to produce the new truck. Stalin's plan was the famous factory 2 (Zavod 2) in Moscow who also produced T-34 and KV-1 tanks. This family of trucks became famous in the War by the ZIS-6 version with three axes was the first shot of the famous platform Katyuscha rockets (known as Stalin's Organs). These antiquated appearance trucks, originates from an American design of Autocar, with an exact copy of Autocar 1929 Delivery Truck, the Soviets developed dozens of different variants of the basic model ZIS-5, some even half tracks.
