Gruyers Castle.

Here's another model from Switzerland. Again, I bought the kit from the castle shop, but unlike Chillon, it's published by Ketty and Alexandre and is available from many on line shops.

The castle is part of the town of Gruyers - better known for its cheese.

Those who have seen my post for Chillon will guess that both kits were bought on the same holiday. This time round, we decided to go for an escorted holiday - it takes away all the effort of finding the way round the country - a no brainer. The coach delivered us to the town and most people made for the cheese factory. My wife and I were almost the only people who went straight to the castle.

We both preferred this castle to Chillon, there was much more to see in decorated and furnished rooms. Also, there was a big exhibition of modern art, I've included a picture below. However, the best bit was a Masterclass on making lutes! The workroom was in one of the ground floor rooms (Just under the left hand arch in one of the pictures. As we all know, all enthusiasts of any hobby are happy to talk about it and thankfully, this applied to the lute makers taking this two week course. We spent so much time in the castle and masterclass, that there was no time to visit the cheese factory.. Ahhhhhhhh!

Sorry about the diversion - back to the model. I have made other castles from K&A. They are quite small models - in this case about 8x10 inches. They are also a little basic and the dotted score lines are a bit too obvious, but on the other hand, the parts fit together well and there are oportunities to add extra details. Anyway, for me, it's a reminder of a great day.

Cheers

Mike
