Looking through my stash - came across a 1:25 WAK model of a Mgebrov-Renault armoured car. Looking at the model - thought - wonder if it could be made in 1:50? - that would be a challenge.
I think it's doable since the original 1:25 model is fairly simple. So far I've got the frames rescaled and printed. The original model asked for 0.5mm thick card - bit of scratching around - found some 250gsm which the calipers say is 0.3mm thick - close enough. Tried out the Cling film bonding technique - works superbly. I just used the cheap generic film I found in the pantry. A couple of things I found though - while the bonded sheet cools watch for any bubbles appearing where the film hasn't bonded properly a touch up with the iron fixes these, also it helps to put some weight on the bonded sheets while they cool. I was bonding 80gsm to 250gsm - there was some tendency to bend while it was cooling.
The Mgebrov-Renault was a Russian armoured car built on a Renault chassis. There is some dispute about exactly which Renault vehicle was used as the base. Mgebrov designed an advanced-looking sloped armour body with an unusual 3 man turret with 2 MGs. This proved to be too heavy for the chassis so the cars were rebuilt with either a large turret with fore and aft MGs or two separate MG turrets. The initial production run was 11 cars built at the Isorski plant in 1916. The Mgebrov-Renault cars served through the remainder of WW1 and into the Civil War. The Bolsheviks restarted production of the Mgebrov-Renault during the Civil War with modified armour. The total production of the car is thought to be about 30.
The WAK model represents a Mgebrov-Renault captured by the German Army at the Narva Railway Station, Estonia in 1918 from Soviet forces. I couldn't find a full sized version of the image of the car with German troops.

Charlie
