1:50 Austin-Putilov

Decided to join in the WW1 fun.

Model is the 1:43 Austin-Putilov armoured car designed by Andriy Romanchuk downloaded from Landships II.

This car was a Russian development of the Austin armoured car imported in numbers during WW1. The Putilov organisation imported Austin chassis and built their own armoured body with two MG turrets. With the revolutions of 1917 the number of chassis imported were limited to about 30. The Austin-Putilovs were used by both sides in the Civil War and the survivors served on into the 1920s in the Red Army.

I decided to rescale to 1:50 and used the white model version in the download model to create a White Army armoured car from 1918/19. There is lots of controversy over the colour of the Russian armoured cars. The experts seem to agree that most were painted grey during WW1. I added some White Army flags to the MG turret sponsons - it's the same flag as the modern Russian flag.

Regards,

Charlie
