AV-8B Harrier II...?

Hey guys, it's been a while...

I'm just wondering, with so much diversity of aircraft subjects designed to have card models, why hasn't anyone designed one for the Harrier II?

I remember Ojimak has a simple one but he took it off his site already as far as I can remember...

1:50 Mgebrov-Renault

Looking through my stash - came across a 1:25 WAK model of a Mgebrov-Renault armoured car. Looking at the model - thought - wonder if it could be made in 1:50? - that would be a challenge.

I think it's doable since the original 1:25 model is fairly simple. So far I've got the frames rescaled and printed. The original model asked for 0.5mm thick card - bit of scratching around - found some 250gsm which the calipers say is 0.3mm thick - close enough. Tried out the Cling film bonding technique - works superbly. I just used the cheap generic film I found in the pantry. A couple of things I found though - while the bonded sheet cools watch for any bubbles appearing where the film hasn't bonded properly a touch up with the iron fixes these, also it helps to put some weight on the bonded sheets while they cool. I was bonding 80gsm to 250gsm - there was some tendency to bend while it was cooling.

The Mgebrov-Renault was a Russian armoured car built on a Renault chassis. There is some dispute about exactly which Renault vehicle was used as the base. Mgebrov designed an advanced-looking sloped armour body with an unusual 3 man turret with 2 MGs. This proved to be too heavy for the chassis so the cars were rebuilt with either a large turret with fore and aft MGs or two separate MG turrets. The initial production run was 11 cars built at the Isorski plant in 1916. The Mgebrov-Renault cars served through the remainder of WW1 and into the Civil War. The Bolsheviks restarted production of the Mgebrov-Renault during the Civil War with modified armour. The total production of the car is thought to be about 30.

The WAK model represents a Mgebrov-Renault captured by the German Army at the Narva Railway Station, Estonia in 1918 from Soviet forces. I couldn't find a full sized version of the image of the car with German troops.

Charlie

Josh Hartnett Test Drives The New BMW i3

BMW is apparently shifting its focus in promoting the i3 from the car’s eco-friendly character to the driving experience it brings to the table. Since the Germans are claiming that this EV is driving like a proper car, they might very well do so.

That’s why they launched a brand new platform that allows users to take a joy ride in the i3 alongside other drivers from around the world, to see their reaction to the instantaneous torque provided by the electric motor fitted on the rear axle of the car.

Since, according to BMW, the videos weren’t staged in any way the reactions should be genuine and untampered with. If that’s true, then the i3 is quite an amazing machine, judging solely by the way people responded to it in the video below.

“We realised right away, after the first test-drives, that we should utilise the excitement of BMW i3 test-drivers for a really authentic and unique form of communication,” explained Dr. Steven Althaus, head of BMW Brand Management and Marketing Services BMW Group.

“The online campaign networks reality and marketing and provides an honest insight into the BMW i3 driving experience,” he added.

The scenes were filmed in Berlin, London and Madrid and 107 people in total got to enjoy the new i3. Over 30 hours of film were recorded, only the best reactions making it to the online platform, of course.

If you wanted to be amongst the people that got to experience the i3 hands-on, don’t be disappointed. More test drives are scheduled to take place in Paris, Amsterdam and Oslo later on this year.

In case you don’t live in these 3 European capitals either, fear not as you can enjoy the i3 online, on its dedicated microsite, where you can change drivers, modify the camera angle or skip to the next team, making it a complete virtual test-drive.

Oh, and Josh Hartnett’s also in the video below. Check out his first reaction!

2013 California Antique Farm Equipment Show

Finally getting this one done, the week after I get back from this year's show. Lost my notes from Friday so slowed me down trying to id some of the vehicles. As always anyone sees one wrong let me know so I can check it. Last year was a really big show with special events honoring the American Truck Historical Society and earthmovers, so bunches of good stuff (at least to me). Also got a chance to get over to the museum and reshoot a few things using a tripod. Better but still managed to screw up a few. Also a few shots of Josuha trees in bloom. Was unusual event in that all in the entire Mohave desert came into bloom at the same time.

A few samples: Holt military crawler, Studebaker Weasel, Rumely 1895 steamer, Peterbilt 1957 280, GMC 1952 900 w a load of John Deere's. 2013-04-19_20 California Antique Farm Equipment Show Tulare - whulsey Enjoy!

Origami Cranes

Howdy y'all.

I decided that I wanted to make my long distance girlfriend something and considering I am good with paper I chose that as a base plan. I then got an idea to make origami roses, one for every day I have known here but they were really hard to make so I chose to make origami cranes. I've known her since February 22nd, 2014 so that makes it 68 days. I started making these yesterday morning and I can finish a crane in five minutes. I plan on making these tonight to try and catch up to 68 then once I am done with those I am going to make one for her everyday for the rest of our lives.

Also, because of the distance (I live in Washington, she lives in New Hampshire, 3,000+ miles) I plan on meeting her in two years when we're both graduated from high school. If I do the math right I should have built by then 750+, maybe more.

trouble from the start

Greetings :)

Im totally new at paper modeling and hope someone can set me down the right path.

Using Sketchup 8 and Pepakura Designer 3. (I do have Flattery installed and have been able to use it but when hit the button to save it as a SVG no file type is chosen.)

Got a model design in my head but decided to try things out as simple as I can. So I made a simple cuboid that is ...

w- 203.2mm

h- 101.6mm

d- 6mm

Exported it as a kmz file then opened it in Pepakura; got 2 message "48 vertices deleted for data normalization" and "24 edges merged."

Hit the unfold button and got nothing like I expected. Not only was the layout not what figured but more importantly the dimensions are nothing like what started with. Upload couple pics and would REALLY appreciate if someone can tell me what I did to cause this mess.

Pirates! Aaargh!

Recently I received a heads up from Rhaven Blaack that a new member on another site had pirated and uploaded one of my designs. It is very reassuring that the moderators on here and at Zealot have the backs of the designers and step in to stop the pirates out there. Many thanks for that.

Unfortunately the culprit did not want to help in removing the pirate copy amicably and I was forced to go in hard and heavy on the designer which led to many obscence and insulting emails from the person explaining what he thinks of me for doing that to him.

The stupid thing is I dont mind sharing the designs as long as the original designer is acknowledged and the download remains free like it is on this forum so one quick PM and there would have been no issues. I am more than happy to promote the hobby and expand access to the designs to as many people as possible but just as I will not take credit for another designers work all I want is the same respect for me and my designs.

Oh well, pirates! Aaargh!!!!!

Blatna Castle

My current build is taking much longer that I expected, so I thought I'd send a few pictures from my "archive".

Blatna is a castle in Czech Republic, south west of Prague. We visited it in 2004 when we spent two weeks touring the Czech castles. I visited the castle shop in the hope of finding a kit. The person in the shop spoke almost no English, but I did find that the ABC magazine had published a kit and when we got home I found it was one of the many kits I had but forgotten about.

I apologise for the quality of the pictures, they were taken with my first digital camera - a Sony that used the 4.5 floppy discs!

Cheers

Mike

The ships of Magnus Morck, at lest 29?

I love Magnus Morck's models. You can build all seven right from the printer with out too much trouble. They really got me into paper model building and design. However, if a guy has any knowledge of photo shop or Gimp, you can actually make at least 29 models with out too much trouble. I will break it down for you.

The USS Maple Leaf, and the USS Coeur de Lion seem to be unique ships. Great models and well worth the build as they are. And his Teazer blockade runner may be usable as a base for other blockade runners, but I do not have enough knowledge to know that for sure. Magnus's other models however, have sister ships!

The USS Mendota and the USS Miami are often confused with one another in period photographs. As such, Magnus's Mendota model is an easy kit to give a make over too. There may be other ships in this "class" that like wise can use few details added/changed to enter service in the paper navy!

The kit of the CSS Albemarle is a great kit. When you are done building it you can fire up Gimp or other photo editing program and make another model, that of the CSS Neuse. Simply recolor the Albemarle's armored deck to look like pine wood and add some extra gun ports. Maybe recolor the armor just to add change. And you have another addition to the CSN.

The one that may keep you buisy the longest, however is the USS Lehigh. This monitor had nine sister ships, eight of them having the same beam and length. The USS Patapsco seems to have been 47 feet longer then the others, but the USS Passaic, USS Montauk, USS Nahant, USS Weehawken, USS Sangamon, USS Catskill, USS Nantucket, and USS Camanche are all the same length and beam and seem to have the same layout at the Lehigh. Some changes, such as color, the removal of the "bullet shield, and placement of ship launches are in order, but all should be build-able. And if you get done with all those, Russia made 10 Uragan class monitors, identical to the Lehigh! Some addition research may be needed as to individual details on the Czars new ironclads, but you will not run out of Civil War ships to build too soon!

And finally you have the USS Commodore Perry. Looking at the lay out and length and beam, I think you can make the USS Commodore Hull, and the USS Commodore Barney. Their may be others in the converted ferry boat class that the Hull would work for as a base, but may need much more "adjusting" such as noticeable length and beam differences or big changes in layouts.

Well, by my count that is 29 models from Magnus's original 7. You can get the base models from our friend Fish Bait's model site, Models n' Moore here: Free paper models by Magnus Mörck

Enjoy!:)

Greeting! My name is Didier Martin, I am French but live in Mexico right now. Many year ago I started assembling paper models and learning all I could about this wonderful hobby, then I started to create my own and taught children. We started with basic ones and went on to more complex models, it was a very enjoyable time and they soon were able to assemble beautiful models.

Since then I continue to create more paper models and even started a web site. And I am happy to have found this forum and to meet others with the same passion.

And there is always so much to learn and simply to look at all the photos and read the comments of everyone.

Thank you for this site.

Murph's Models - Douglas B-18 Bolo

This is the latest beta build that I'm doing for Aaron. Started with the nose

canopy, and a little adjustment seems necessary. See pics.

As this was noticed after finishing the nose canopy, I didn't want to

start all over again and decided to trim it to fit the first nose fuselage section.

Result in the Pics 4 and 5 appears to be okay. Best if this glitch is corrected to

avoid frustration when starting a new build.

The ridge in the first pic is by design, I believe, when the nose canopy template

was built into a 3-d shape. Apart from this, the rest of the fuselage should be

no problem.
