Sometimes its the little things. I recommend this

https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...d=com.freeirtv

OK, if you have an IR blaster on your device, specifically the S4, you'd do well to grab this remote app. I've used it when Emma falls asleep on me and I can't reach the real remote without disturbing her.

Now I buy apps I use regularly to support those devs that work hard. This app has been updated quite a bit, he's on top of things. However the purchased features crash the app on my device.

I emailed for a refund, and surprisingly I received it quickly. I was also surprised he emailed asking for details as to the crashes.

I probably email devs a bit more than the average guy, and I'll tell you that quick responses are rare. Even more rare when a refund is involved. (Remembering the tool that demanded a 5 star review before refunding)

Guys, pick this up. Better yet spend $1.99 in app. I believe he will fix the crashes, and keep the app updated. Always support good/great devs.

Review: S4 Seidio OBEX waterproof case

You might remember a few months ago I reviewed a Seidio OBEX case for the iPhone 5. The case came away as a winner but when comparing it to a Lifeproof case it did have a few shortcomings. So with out further ado let's get started.

The Pro's:

1. The cases form factor is just about purfect (you see what I did there?). It's nice and rounded in all the right spots. Feels really nice in your hand.

2. The screen protector is flawless just like the iPhone 5 version I tested earlier. It is very responsive to the touch and is hardly noticeable at all. The screen has the little dots on the inside of it to prevent the dreaded rainbow effect. Don't worry, the dots are not noticeable unless you turn it at an angle and really look for them.

3. The sound from the S4 is dismal to say the least. With this case it might be a tad better because of the design. There is a little sound chamber over the speaker that seems to make the sound a little better IMO.

4. As far as phone calls go, I really couldn't tell any difference with the case on or off and for that matter neither could people on the other end of my calls.

5. The clip holster is just about as good as it could get. It has a 360 degree rotation and a nice lock so you won't accidentally drop your phone out of the clip.

Aight...now let's delve into some of the shortcomings of the iPhone 5 case I tried...

6. The case can now be used with headphones and remain completely waterproof. In the box is an adapter for your favorite headphones to keep the phone water tight. With a quarter twist you will feel the adapter snug into place. You can use most standard headphones with a straight plug without the adapter but to keep the water out just plug in the adapter. If your headphones have an angled plug or an extra large plug you will need the adapter.

7. The ports on the iPhone 5 case were closed with removable plugs that were a bit awkward to use and subject to loss by clumsy folks like myself. The closures and plugs were completely redesigned for the S4 and I have to say with complete success. The case closes with a hinged clip at the top and bottom with a separate built in plug for the headphone jack.

Now for the Con's:

1. Even though the case is light and thin it does make the phone a tad bigger. I have pretty big hands and the case was just the tipping point to change my S4 from a one handed device to a two handed device. This is really not a con just the nature of the beast.

2. .....Struggling here....That's about all I can come up with.

So by now you can tell I really love the case. The iPhone 5 case was great. They addressed and improved on all the things that fell short on that case with the new redesigned S4 case. I won't use this case as an every day case just because I'm a case fanatic. This case is however a must have for those rainy days, pool days and beach days. The case comes in 4 color options and retails for $79.95,$89.95 with the clip holster.

Overall rating: 9/10 whiskers

Customer Service At It's Best

I was thinking last night about the device protection plan that I have been paying for with T-Mobile and figured that now I have a At&t device I probably ought to cancel the coverage because surely they wouldn't cover my unlocked At&t device. Here is where it all began.

I was pleasantly surprised that my At&t device is covered under warranty because I had the protection plan in place when switching devices. I told the rep that I also noticed on my account that I was eligible for 4gb of data for $15 instead of the 2gb of data for $20 that I was currently on.

The rep said let's look at your plan which I have 5 devices on and paying $177, 2 with unlimited everything and 2 gb of data, 3 with unlimited text and 500 whenever minutes, no data. The rep stated he could do better than that and because of my loyalty as a 9 year customer he migrated me over to a new plan which is:

2 lines with Unlimited everything, 2.5 gbs of data, slower speed after

3 lines with unlimited everything, 500 mgb of data, unlimited slower speed after

This at a cost of $150 with no locked in commitments to T-Mobile, all migration fees were waived.

And just think all I did was ask a question, Thank You Very Much T-Mobile

Problem with Desktop Manager...BBSAK?

Roger tipped me off to the BBSAK and I checked out the site. Thanks again Roger.

So, the genesis of this is I have a major problem with DM. Verizon has tried to resolve it, so has RIM/BB...but to no avail. For whatever reason, my "current" (although a version or two ago) DM was not working. It was not recognizing my device as well as a few other issues. Everyone has "uninstalled" it -- and it will not completely uninstall. RIM/BB tried to install both a new and old version, and they won't properly install. Obviously something wrong with my laptop they say. OK, thanks. LOL.

Anyway, I want to back up my device and get a new Bold 9930 ASAP. But I cannot lose my data. I know there are ways to sync or "back up" emails, contacts, calendar, etc. My email, contacts and calendar will automatically sync with my new BB, so I don't think that's a problem. However, I don't want to lose pictures, videos and text messages.

Other than DM, which backs up the entire device...can I back up the entire device...all data...with BBSAK?

Thank you in advance.

My New Affair

I really had to title it this was because my wife would think the same as I'm sure most of you can relate. A new device requires time. Time to get familiar with, touch and feel, looks, tweaks, and more. Thought I would share what I have become familiar with using my S4.

Del hit it on the head saying that I would consider my S2 a model T once I got my S4. The S2 was rock solid and very stable, a device I could rely on from day to day. After playing around with a few custom roms, tweaks, and such I believe the S4 has already filled that roll nicely.

As far as bench marks there is no comparison and just to show those interested I'll show you results from the S2 and the S4, starting with the S2.

Screenshot_2013-09-15-19-12-50.png Screenshot_2013-09-24-09-31-54.jpg

As you can see by the benchmark results there really is no comparison for speed and performance.

I wasn't sure I would like the home button, but found out that I really like it better, course it's a matter of preference.

I was worried about getting the device unlocked, all the At&t bloatware and update notifications removed. Rooting was never a worry cause I knew there was an easy way. Unlocking was a breeze as well, not really concerned just didn't want to be stuck on EDGE with TMO.

I have everything tweaked in with my favorite apps such as Trickster, Advanced Task Manager, Rom ToolBox, Greenify, and of course my beloved Apex Launcher Pro. I don't like anything on the home screen except a weather widget. Everything else is accessed with buttons and gestures.

Once again I can't express enough thanks and gratitude towards PinStack, it's owner's, Staff, and Professionals. Because without all of you I wouldn't be writing this thread.

There you have it not much else to say other than I'm glad Del didn't have to send the squad to convince the wife to let me keep this great Samsung device.

Verizon Blackberry question...

So if you wanted to "avoid" the Z10 because it doesn't have a physical keyboard...and you couldn't get a Q10 because of "corporate" reasons (I don't think it's supported, but more I think there are several "conflicts" and/or problems, bugs, etc. with corporate software and applications)...what's the best option?

The Bold 9930?

I hate to ask, but what about buying one of these "other" BB's that's linked to another carrier and having it "unlocked" -- ???

I can't believe I am asking as it's so unlike me. LOL. I take the simplistic approach. I buy it, buy it right, buy it working and I use it. Period. LOL.

What are my options here? Thank you in advance.

via Smartphones: PinStack.com http://forums.pinstack.com/f339/verizon_blackberry_question-140426/

So...what does this mean for Blackberry

Rather than get into all the back and forth about the deal to take Blackberry private...I guess my question is more about...what does the current landscape of the industry mean for Blackberry going forward? Are they going to survive and be an ongoing company, producing devices, etc.? Rumors of their demise have been going on for years, and seemed to be drastically exaggerated. I am not tech knowledgeable -- hence my handle, LOL -- but between the "drama" and efforts to raise eyebrows, shock people, etc., I think the death notice type of things are very often exaggerated. Regardless, what's the deal here?

Will Blackberry end up like the Betamax? I get they are being destroyed so to speak by others/competition. Everyone I know is using an iPhone and they are picking up traction in the corporate marketplace. I don't know if Motorola/Android or whatever their top of the like smartphone is today is still a major player. I don't know the marketplace very well, but I am interested, and very interested what this means to Blackberry and us loyal users.

Thank you in advance for any insight, opinions, perspectives, etc.

Case-Mate for a Bold 9650 (Verizon)

Hello everyone. Just wanted to ask the resident experts about the Case-Mate case(s). I've heard of a Fuel and/or a Fuel Lite/Light. I've done some google searches, seen them on ebay, even visited the company's website -- but I just can't seem to figure this out. LOL.

So what's the deal? It's a case that acts/kicks in as a charger? I am not sure how this works, but it seems like a very good idea.

Any insight, comments, advice? Thank you in advance.

Back From The Ashes...

Not even sure if there's many people around here still from back in the day, but just had to pop in and say:

BlackBerry...you had a good run, but you let your ego get in the way. You should have listened to the core group that got you into the consumer market to begin with. But nope. Thought you had it all figured out.

RIP BlackBerry.

Prices and wifi

Been out of the bb loop recently. Any news on z10 coming down in cash (vs installment) price? I keep checking at tmo when I go by, but they are still at $535. PSA: Beware of the Many Fake BBM Apps on the Play Store

Android Headlines

Saturday, September 21, 2013 3:50 PM GMT

Today is BBM day, well it's supposed to be. We're still waiting for Blackberry to push the app into Google Play. In fact they said it's coming soon.

Thanks for your patience #Android users! Working hard to get you the real #BBM ASAP. We'll let you know when it's live. #BBM4ALL

So we're keeping our eyes out to see when BBM actually finally launches. But if you weren't aware that it hadn't already launched, you probably went searching in the Play Store this morning for BBM, like I did. You probably also found a ton of BBM apps, of course they are all fake. Even the ones by 'Blackberry Inc' are fake. So we just wanted to take this time to remind everyone and make sure you all knew that there are many fake BBM apps out there on the Play Store and to be careful. If you can, it's a good idea to report these apps to Google as well, so they can be removed.

Let's talk about how you can spot fake apps. Since this isn't just the case for BBM, but there are other fake apps out there as well. You can start at the logo. Now the BBM logo looks very similar to the ones on these apps, so that's a bit hard to tell. Next check out the developer's name. Stuff like Mobile Freakz, and Andropedia Lab are definitely not going to be the real deal. But there are a few apps by a developer named 'Blackberry Inc.”. Their apps almost got me as well, because that would look like the real deal. You can also check out the description, take this one for example:

Blackberry Messenger Full Edition!!!

For All Android Devices and also it is FREE!!!

BBM™ 7.0.1 now gives you the freedom to chat with your friends the way you want. Seamlessly switch from a BBM conversation to a BBM Voice chat and talk to your friends, virtually wherever they are in the world, for free over Wi-Fi. Stay in touch like never before with BlackBerry® Messenger. New on the latest version of BBM: •BBM Voice now available for BlackBerry OS 5 users – Talk or text, the choice is yours. BBM Voice connects you to friends in an instant, directly from a BBM chat screen. (BBM Voice might not be supported in all regions or device versions. Visit our BBM support page below for more details.) •BlackBerry ID Integration (optional) – Simplifies OS and device upgrades. Device switches are as simple as entering your BlackBerry ID when you first open BBM, and your BBM profile, contacts and groups are instantly available on your new device. *PLEASE READ* 1. Both users require BlackBerry OS 5 or higher, data plan and Wi-Fi connection for BBM Voice chat. Please check with your service provider for availability and restrictions. 2. If you haven't associated your BBM contacts with a BlackBerry ID, please back up your contact list by displaying the menu within BlackBerry Messenger – Options – Back Up before downloading. (Available for users of BBM 5.0 and above). 3. Please ensure that you are using RIM or network approved BlackBerry® Device Software to avoid compatibility issues that may result in loss of the BBM icon. 4. After installing the new version of BBM, restart your device. For technical support with BlackBerry Messenger (BBM), visit http://www.blackberry.com/support/messenger. For billing issues and technical support options related to App World only, please visit http://www.blackberry.com/support/appworld

Can we say fake? So let's be sure not to get suckered in by all these fake apps and wait for the real one. Which will show up on Blackberry's Google Play Page here.

Long story short, my security wipe got interrupted and now my phone is a brick. Camera gets hot in 1020

It was my wifes BD today and she wanted to go to pumpkin patch. Just on a quick side note with the trouble I have walking since my back injury we asked and they loaned us one of their golf carts to get around on. I know they won't see this but they were so nice to do this for us today.

Back to the 1020. Was taking some pictures and enjoying playing with the camera on the Nokia but I can say that camera really gets hot. And in all I maybe took 20 pictures over 45 mins so it was not like I was just snapping shot after shot.

Absolutely worst customer service. Why Sprint is hands down the worst carri

So, Cas has an upgrade due on Oct 1st. 18 days away.

Target has the S4 on sale, essentially free after trade and employee discount and gift card. See where I'm going?

Called sprint. Can they push an upgrade through a few days early so we could get the phone? Nope. They claim that the line isn't available for early upgrade, end of story.

I call retentions.I politely ask, that before we cancel a line, why it wasn't eligible for an 18 day early upgrade. After about 20 years with them I'd just like to know.

Suddenly there is a way to upgrade early. If I give em $25 they will allow it. Hey a little more than $1 for every year with them! Whatta deal!

At this point I'm a tad angry, but arguing in a store isn't doing the headache I've had all day any good. So OK, you win.

So, here we go. The Target employee asks for my SSN and phone number. The computer says its wrong. We try the primary account holders, nope. Cas...nope. The the computer says the account has been locked by the carrier.

Really?

Call them back. 1st they apparently mistook "yes I'll pay $25" for "No thanks, I went through all this for the fun of it".

2nd, we have a corporate account. This can be only upgraded at a Sprint store. This, as you may guess, is news to me. We have no corp account, and I've upgraded outside a sprint store before. They insist even after I pull up the account and ask them to do the same, wanting to know where it said it was a corporate account. Amazingly it doesn't. And according to the guy on the phone, there it shouldn't. What?

Its a corporate account because we use the discount sprint offers for Target Employees. So, every Target employee is a corporate customer with corporate accounts that they can't upgrade at Target. Wow.

So, no way to get the upgrade at a Target.

Apparently being a customer for all those years means nothing. Apparently keeping customers is not a priority for sprint.

I've left a lot out, because it just got more and more ridiculous. The more I pushed the dumber his replies became. Did you know that Sprint allows contract extensions 20 months. That's right 4 months before the contract expires they will renew, just not 4 months and 18 days.

Won't be using this upgrade. Won't be using mine in January.

If, for whatever reason you ever are asked if Sprint is a good choice, please slap whomever asked and respond with a resounding "Hell No!".

Old E-Mails Re-Appearing

I have 9 email addresses on my Note, only one of which is a POP account. Why is it that old emails keep reappearing as new every so often? I generally delete emails after I've read them, unless they're extremely important, and for the most part, this inbox is empty. Old emails reappear as new, which drives me nuts.

Thoughts?

Also, is there a quick way to empty the trash folder in an email account?

In Beijing, the New IPhone Gets a Resounding 'Meh' By Christina Larson

On the day Apple released its new iPhone 5C simultaneously in the U.S. and China, I tromped around Beijing asking yuppies, restaurant workers, and migrant street sweepers what kind of phones they use—and why. It’s hardly a scientific survey, but if the mood at the Yonghegong*Costa Coffee shop is any indication, Apple’s marketing people have some work to do.

Costa Coffee, near Beijing’s Lama Temple, is the kind of place that attracts the type of latte-sipping young professionals who flocked to buy new iPhones two years ago. In fact, a fair number of its customers are still using older iPhones, but they expressed mixed feelings about whether they’ll stick with Apple in the future—or opt instead for the larger Android-powered Samsung Galaxy smartphone, which is fast gaining popularity here. The iPhone 5C is routinely mocked as “not attractive.”

Slumped in a brown sofa, Susan Li, a prim, middle-aged teacher, toggles between the iPhone 4S she bought in 2011 and her work-issued IBM ThinkPad. Both are “good enough,” she says, without enthusiasm; she’ll wait until her phone dies before replacing it. Zhang Ao, another iPhone 4S-user and a young cameraman for Beijing Television (BTV), looks up from the meal he brought in from a nearby KFC. He says the “wow factor” of owning an Apple product wore off long ago. He dismissed the new, brightly colored iPhone 5C as looking “like a cartoon.” He’s not sure what kind of phone he’ll buy next.

His BTV colleague, Angel Kang, who’s wearing black-framed hipster glasses and a svelte purple dress, says, “We are very happy that Apple released the new iPhone in China and the U.S. at same time. It’s a nice friendship gesture.” Not that she actually wants to own one. Kang says she’s very happy with the Samsung Galaxy she bought in July; she especially likes the larger screen size, which she says is better for shooting and viewing photos. Sitting nearby is Joey Zhao, who’s in town from Shanghai, where he works for a Japanese company that makes headphones. Zhao is also a Samsung Galaxy devotee and extols the virtues of the customizable Android operating system, “because I can put whatever I like on it.”

One employee of China Telecom, which has a partnership with Apple, declined to give her name but offered a theory on Apple’s diminished mystique in China. She says Steve Jobs was revered in China as a creative miracle. Now, she says, Apple is just an ordinary company controlled by businessmen.

For Apple to find long-term success in China, it needs not only to retain existing customers, but also to entice new smartphone shoppers—people lower down the income ladder. One target might be 35-year-old Chen Guibiao, who works at the Yunlin Delicious Kabob restaurant in Beijing’s Dongzhimen neighborhood. Chen is a migrant worker from rural Jiangsu province, but he has lived in Beijing for 16 years and has adjusted to city life. His job is to sit outside the restaurant on a little white plastic stool and yell at passersby, trying to entice them to dine inside: “Spicy food! Free parking!” Two years ago, Chen paid 2000 renminbi ($325) for his first smartphone, a white Samsung Anycall model. He says he’s ready to buy a new phone, but his upper price limit is 3000 renminbi ($490). Apple’s “cheap” new iPhone 5C—which will start at 4488 renminbi ($735) for the 16GB model in China—is still beyond his reach.

By the end of 2013, roughly 500 million people in China are expected to have smartphones. While that’s an impressive total, it also means many folks still aren’t online. At a park near the Russian embassy, Chen Sen, a 47-year-old street sweeper from Shandong province, sits on a wooden bench taking a smoking break. He fumbles in the pockets of his fluorescent-orange uniform vest to take out his “dumb” phone, a domestic-made Changhong model he bought four years ago for 200 renminbi ($30). A friend and fellow street sweeper, leaning on a broom nearby, shows me his 300 renminbi ($45) Nokia model.

Do they want to upgrade to smartphones? Chen shrugs. He still isn’t sold on why he needs to carry the Internet around in his pocket. But he adds that if he does go the smartphone route, the 799 renminbi ($130)*Hongmi (“Red rice”) model from Xiaomi*might be a possibility.

Free Books

I don't know if anyone else does but I read mostly on my phone. I'd rather not pay for books and was wondering if anyone knows of any good sites for downloading free books, preferably epubs.

I'm currently on the search for the collection of Roald Dahl books. Yes I'm looking for kids books but I enjoyed them before so why not read them again. Any links would be greatly appreciated.

Another decent find

I can't say too much about this app, just started using. So far its useful if you (or your ROM) lack toggles in the notification area like 4.2 introduced.

Check this out if you like playing with homescreens

From XDA

http://www.xda-developers.com/androi...s-coming-soon/

Beta sign up for an app that works with MyColorScreen

In a nutshell users post their unique setups for the world to see.and emulate if they wish. The upcoming app makes it simple (supposedly) to recreate these looks.

Since I play around with mine constantly I didn't hesitate to sign up for the beta.

Color Splash Effect

https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...studio.colorme

Always meant to thank Del for posting this image.

I change wallpapers frequently. Some I find don't really "fit" what I'm looking for. Color Splash Effect allows you to select the colors you wish to keep, making the rest of the photo black and white.

This can be done easily in Photoshop but I do most things on my phone.

All the examples above were done quickly and were full color originals.

For those of you who like to share its very easy to do so from within the app. I linked the free version so play with it.

My favorite.

Smartphone Games

So I don't know how many of you play games on your smartphones but I do every chance I get. However I'm finding that I'm getting bored with my favorites and was looking for something new and fresh.

Here's what I have if anyone is interested in them:

Absolute Bingo

Bingo Blitz

https://play.google.com/store/apps/d....newflashbingo

Bingo Bash

https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...itrhymes.bingo

Bejeweled Blitz

https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...eweledBlitz_na

JeweLife

https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...Games.JeweLife

Candy Crush Saga(I'm stuck on a level on this one)

https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...candycrushsaga

Diamond Dash

Solitaire

https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...ware.solitaire

Word Search

https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...ots.WordSearch

I know I have quite a few, lots of bingo, but I want something different. I've tried The Sims 3 but get bored and frustrated because they're so needy, I have a baby and husband for that. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

A Very Special Review

Boudreaux's Butt Paste

Let's face it, we're geeks. Sitting long hours playing with our cellphones can cause some...shall we say...discomfort.

That's why I use Boudreaux's Butt Paste or all my chaffing and rash needs.

Did Goldbond let you down? Johnson & Johnson just not up to snuff? Well step right up and grab a handy dandy container of Butt Paste. That's right, I said Butt Paste.

Swiping that screen all day can leave unsightly blemishes on those fingers. Sooth them away with Butt Paste. No its not just for butts any more.

Bags appearing under your eyes because you were up all night agonizing over which phone is best? Butt Paste.

Take it from me, when you need to paste your butt, do it with Boudreaux's Butt Paste.

Available at Target.

Phantomskinz

I know we all need to protect our screens, and I know there are many different options.

I want to highly recommend Phantomskinz. It is a wet screen protector but installation has change and is simple, easy, and yeilds a perfectly clear solution.

Most like Zagg eventually develops orange peel effect. If you're not familiar with that, its basically the texture of an orange peel on your screen.

I've used them on every device I've had and Cassie's. Most devices are supported along with skins for devices as well. They offer clear and matte protectors as well.

Prices vary but each package comes with 2 skins and fluid needed to install. Chromatics are the same but you only get one.

Guys, I would never recommend something that is a waste of money. Not only do these last but come with a lifetime limited warranty.

I'd post pics but it's clear, not much to see.

I've come to realize I'm bored. Bored with smartphones.

I don't know why.

I'm starting to care less and less about ROMs, apps, platforms, speed or fraetures.

I think I miss dumbphones.

Hopefully its a phase.

Nothing seems cool, or fun.

Maybe I'm just getting older. I see my children so happy playing games or whatever, and I just can't be bothered. Could be that I'm just working too hard.

Interesting signal note

We have been having trouble with the service in our area for a couple of months. Last night it got to be it's worst because I could hold a signal to even call to complain I had to go online chat. Funny thing was I was using my Nokia 1020 and the wifes Blackberry 9800 and her phone would hold a signal way better the the nokia. ATT agreed they had a low signal in the area for some reason which was about all they could tell me other then putting in a ticket so they could look into it more. I could just sit the two phones down together and watch them go from 3 bars to no signal and back without moving anything. It seems to be holding a signal this morning but nothing better then 3 bars and we normally have 4-5.

Galaxy Note sales show that large phones are here to stay

Remember when Samsung's big-screened Galaxy Note line was considered niche? Those days are long gone. JK Shin now says that the company has sold more than 38 million Note smartphones since the original launched in late 2011. That's 28 million more than Samsung reported a year ago; for context, Nokia has sold a total of 27.3 million Lumia smartphones as of its latest earnings report. Not surprisingly, Shin sees a bright future ahead for the Galaxy Note 3. He expects Samsung to sell over 10 million units of the third-generation handset, and history suggests that the tech giant could easily reach that goal despite an abundance of competition.

Starbucks vs. Dunkin Donuts

This is very off topic but I'm curious for all you coffee drinkers, do you prefer Starbucks or dunkin donuts coffee?

Personally I prefer dunkin but seeing how there's only a Starbucks where I work I will get that but it has to be the blonde roast, anything else is way too strong.

At home we normally just get Folger's or Maxwell house, depends on which is cheaper. We splurged and got the black silk this last time.

So what is easy mode?

Might not have that right but I see where some androids have a mode that they say makes the phone easier to use. Only had a samsung tab 2 and didn't really like it so I never used it and that is why I wonder if I would even like a phone on this platform. If I'm going to use a phone for more then a phone I think something with a screen like the note 2 or the soon to be out note 3 would be a better way to use the internet on the go. But if I can't figure out the basics on the phone I would not like it. Since my only use of android was the tab 2 I was not forced to figure it out.

Well after reading that need to state my questions. What is this easy mode (if that is what it is called)? And does it really work?

T-Mobile Offers Galaxy Gear Smartwatch for $299.99, available Oct 2nd

If your wrist is begging for a phone of its own, you'll have to wait about another month. T-Mobile said Friday that Samsung's Galaxy Gear, the company's newest smartwatch, will launch nationwide on Oct. 2 for $299.99.

The other big cellular providers will also offer the Gear, though they have not been as forthcoming with the details. AT&T only mentioned the Gear in passing in its most recent statement. Neither Verizon nor Sprint have said anything official, though a leaked internal document says that Verizon may bundle the smartwatch with the Galaxy Note 3 for $599.99.

Samsung Galaxy Gear Review 2013: First Look at New Smartwatch

Samsung recently highlighted the interactivity between the Gear and its newest smartphone, the Galaxy Note 3. T-Mobile will also release the stylus-equipped smartphone for $199.99, though owners will have to pay an additional $21.00 per month for two years. AT&T offers the phone for $299.99 with a two-year contract or $724.99 off the shelf.

The Galaxy Gear marks the first corporate effort to get into the smartwatch market. But even though Samsung is launching the first shots at Apple and Microsoft, those shots may not hit as hard as the company might think.

Patrick Moorhead, the founder and principal analyst of Moorhead Insights and Strategy, said that smartwatch technology overall isn't ready for prime time. "It's an 'OK' first attempt at a smartwatch, but it has a long way to go," he told ABC News. "I don't expect Gear to sell in high volumes as I expect consumers rather to opt for other, cheaper smartwatches."

Samsung Galaxy Gear: Time To Watch, Not Buy

Samsung also needs to make sure that retailers and customers are aware that the watch is more like an accessory than a product that can stand on its own, industry experts said. "That point has been made clearly to the press, but it needs to continue in retail," said Angela McIntyre, research director at Gartner.

She also added that customers need to be informed about which phones and devices will specifically work with the Gear. "Getting a Galaxy S4 to work with the Gear requires a software download," she said. "There's also been no discussion on what other types of Android phones might work, and especially no discussion on whether it will work with iOS devices."

Moorhead agreed and said the Gear is hampered by its need to connect with other Samsung devices. "Galaxy Gear isn't useful at all without a Samsung phone," he said. "It will only be attractive to technology enthusiasts with a lot of disposable income who prefer Samsung, and that's a pretty narrow slice."

TeXTe Emergency text alerts

https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...ravid.dev.esms

Sometimes you need the sound on your device turned off. What happens if someone needs to get ahold of you in an emergency?

Enter TeXTe. You can set up a code word that seta off an alarm that bypasses the set sound profile.

Works very well and provides a little bit of comfort if you worry like I do.

Data speed Thread

Let me first apologize for asking someone to do the work I could not. I know that somewhere on here there is a thread that gives instructions on creating a way to bypass throttling.....I believe it involves creating an APN??? I did it on my S2 Skyrocket, but now have a Note 2 and need to do it to this phone. I could not find the thread anywhere...... After a week at the beach and my 3yr old on Netflix the entire time, I have been throttled at 2gb one week into my billing cycle. Thanks for any and all replies!

Paid vs Free

OK guys, when do you feel the need to buy an app vs using its free version?

I usually buy when if I've followed the apps thread on xda and see if the Dev is working hard, answers questions reasonably quick, and gives the vibe that he's not a "doosh".

However I've never bought mainstream apps like Angry Birds. There's some prejudice somewhere within me.

I can't bring myself to spend a dollar on it.

Greenify is a good example. If you aren't rooted there's no benefit to buying the donate version, yet I'd have no problem doing so.

Any comments?

For holster peeps

Fortte is my go to site for nice leather cases. They have cases for many phones and you can even order a custom sized case. They're a little on the expensive side but when you get one you'll see that they are well worth it.
