Hi all,
I have been mulling these themes about for some time now, and wanted to present to the membership these ideas.
The first group build idea is: Tiger Meet.
Military aircraft, and helicopters which have a Tiger in their squadron logo, there are many references on the net in regard to Tiger Meet, and the squadrons and countries involved.
If you have built a Tiger Meet aircraft, do post pictures, or a link to your build, this way others can be inspired by your work and model.
This build is also open to designers and repainters, and they are highly encouraged to participate, there are some great looking designs out there, and would look great represented in paper.
The second group build idea is: 80's Throwback.
My initial thoughts were only focused on those authors who had their models published in the 1980s, Alan Rose, Peter Zorn, A.G. Smith, Edmund Gillon, and others.
I have since amended my thought to include any model published before 1995 to be included(there are some great books published during those early years in the 1990's.
Seeing that a large majority of the membership might not have easy access to purchase some of those designers, I encourage anyone to build models from their own country which the lineage can be traced back to the 1980's or thereabouts. This includes the much maligned Maly Modelarz kits from Poland(yes you can build these models as well)
I would like to limit the time from to around 1975 to 1995, this way, if any one wants to organize another group build using vintage models(Please do!) can do so, without having too much overlap.
In the Throwback group, anything is accepted, architecture, vehicles, aircraft, whatever strikes your fancy, is game, including the Ruben's digital versions of Alan's DC-3, and Peter's TriMotor.
There are no limits on the number of models you build, or want to build, and there will be no prizes or incentives, but if someone would like to sponsor something, we can discuss this.
I am eyeing the end of the year to wrap up both builds, around 9.5 months or so to go.
I have a third group build idea, but I will keep this under wraps for the time being.
I will create subforums for each group build shortly, in the mean time, you are encouraged to preface your thread with either Tiger Meet, or Throwback, this way I can move those threads easily once the subforums are created.
Have fun, be careful with the knife and scissors, and enjoy yourselves.
Rick
