A Small Collection of Antique French Models

Color scheme for WW1 Troopship

Here's a question for the naval buffs out there. I am trying to convert a model of the SS Kronprinzessen Cecelie to it's WWI conversion to a US troopship, the USS Mount Vernon. I am trying to figure out what color scheme she had. All I could find were black & white photos. Apparently her black & white sides were painted a solid color (light grey?) at the beginning of the war, then dazzled sometime during the war.

So here's the dilemma: what colors would the US have used? I know some early US warships were white, or a light blue. In the picture where she's tied up alongside the hospital ship Comfort, the funnels are black topped with a light (white?) stripe. The bright white stripe indicates the rest of the ship isn't white, she's grey or light blue. The story there is that on her last trip to America as the Cecelie, the crew painted the tops of her yellow funnels black to disguise herself as the RMS Olympic. This happened early in the war, yet the photo says 1920, after she was mothballed.
In the dazzle scheme, the funnels don't have the black & white tops. So was she "undazzled" after the war?

I haven't decided whether to depict her in a single color, or dazzled. If I dazzle her, I don't know appropriate colors there either. Blues, blacks, white, greys?

Murph's Models B-34 Lockheed Lexington

Ok, so I've been building this model all week and all that's left to do is to add the engines and landing gear.

It's not one of my best builds, but I'm reasonably pleased with it so far. However, I was studying it earlier today when I noticed a couple of errors with the camouflage pattern on some of the parts:-

Also, the fairings on the tailplane are of a much lighter colour than they should be and stick out like a sore thumb:-

It makes me wonder if these models have actually been built before going up for sale?!

I'm not sure if I want to carry on and finish it now. Disappointed to say the least .

Use report: Fiskars Micro Tip Scissors

Last week I reported that I got a pair of Fiskars Micro Tip Scissors for Christmas. Wyvern asked for a use report, so here's my impressions of them.

They are available in USA from Wal-Mart and Bed, Bath & Beyond, both in the store and online. Probably available in other craft and hobby shops also. In USA, about $13-17. On Fiskars website, several color handles available.

The scissors have two unique features: First, the handles are straight like pliers instead of finger loops. The ones I got are spring loaded, and be locked closed. I have Osteo Arthritis in my hands, and sometimes it's hard to hold regular scissors. These are much easier for me to grip and squeeze together.

The other neat feature is the "micro tip". The blades are only 2" long and come to an almost needle-sharp point. I'm currently working on a ship which I calculated as 1/335 scale (weird scale, go figure!) so some parts are quite small. The micro tips easily cut the little triangular flaps for curved pieces.
Overall, I'm very happy with them and highly recommend investing in a pair.

Does anyone have a download link to Taekwon V Ver.3

I found this photo on the web and several posts of it but could never find a working download link for it. Does anyone have a download link to Taekwon V Ver.3?

Tokyo Tower

Here is another little Paper Nano model. I guess Tokyo tower is sort of like the Japanese version of the Eiffel tower. Built in 1958, it stands around 333 feet.

This build includes what I believe is supposed to be a little Hato yellow tour bus. From my online research this bus line gives half day tours of the city sights.

Model is meant to lit from beneath (the building under tower has no roof) so I may pick up a few little LEDs and try to rig something up.

Is there a way to print a portion of a pdf page while maintaining scale?

I'm pretty new to building paper models and I've found myself having to print out replacement pages fairly regularly if a part is damaged or doesn't look right.

Is there a way to select just the portion of the page you want to print to save on ink?

Need Software help--"B"Lord

OK, I had a Good Torrent client that worked where the
original (Bit Torrent) wouldn't. but after letting it update,
I have Lost it!!

I blamed my anti-malware Zemana, But I "REVO'd" that,
and STILL I get the same error/problem.
After installing, I click on the desktop shortcut
and get the pop-up "Windows cannot find Bitlord.exe"

Zemana was Not FREE, but a Giveaway!!

Bitlord found Flashpoint Season 5 when Torrent would not

Is there anyway to re-install Bitlord and have it Work??
I have turned off the other anti-malware I know I
have 'Iobit's Adnvanced System Cleaner'

Bit the problem continues

Is there a way to block ALL anti-malware/anti-spyware until I get a Complete install????

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

And yes, I know p2p clients are frowned upon here, but, I use them to replace lost TV shows, Movies, books or PC software

Thank You All.

fentens papermodels now in Australia, too

Hi everybody,

We just opened our webstore for paper models in Australia.
fentens papermodels Australia
and on Facebook

We get a new delivery almost every week from the fentens papermodels warehouse in Germany and on the long run we will have the full range available here in Brisbane, Australia, too.

Before this post I’ve been browsing through this forum for a while and I saw that there were some questions a while ago regarding HMV, fentens papermodels and the former companies Scheuer & Struever and moduni. Yes – same people.
My wife Ulrike and I do the HMV paper model range and fentens papermodels in Europe and now in Australia, too.

I hope for some of you this is a late Christmas present :)
Cheers, Ben

Macchi C.202 Instrument Panel

Hola mis amigos

Hope you’ve all had a good Christmas?

OK, my last card project went really well (BF109 instrument panel). It inspired me so much, I want to make another!! From card and paper (and a little clear plastic) of course.

With this in mind, my next project is an instrument panel for a Macchi C202 fighter of the Regia Aeronautica during WWII. Something like the item in the picture below:

I decided on this particular aircraft instrument panel as there is very little information on it and there are few surviving aircraft around the world. This would make for interesting research with a degree of difficulty.

The scale will be 1:1 (full scale as before). I have a dropbox account which I will store all the work in; people can view this link at anytime. It’s in my Signature block titled Macchi C202.

My reference material will be from the internet and from a few books I have purchased, see books below:

BL 6inch 26cwt Howitzer beta build

Another Wayne McCullough triumph.

For those who follow these things Wayne designed a 1/48 Gun Carrier Mark I a while ago but it didn't have a gun. He has been working to fix that.

I've just finished the beta build of a 1/50 6inch 26cwt howitzer which will fit
in the Gun Carrier. I've built it as a standalone piece. There are a few, very minor, problems with the model but the result is outstanding (not my build - the design).

There are more goodies with the model - a pair of wheel extensions (these were fitted for use on soft ground) - a set of girdles (wooden shoes wrapped around the wheels to handle soft mud).

For those of you artillery challenged - the 26 hundredweight (cwt) was introduced into service in 1916. It proved to be reliable and highly effective. The howitzer stayed in service until WW2 and wasn't finally removed from service until 1945. First image is a WW1 6inch howitzer.

Regards,

Charlie

Halinsky Sherman VC Firefly with photos

As there are some Halinsky armour builds here I thought I made well start posting mine as well but it will be slow.

As there are some Halinsky armour builds here I thought I made well start posting mine as well but it will be slow. I saw this model on their website and liked the look of it so I got it,photocopied page and had a trial build of the inside of the turret but found that the ribs that are cut from one mill card are very fragile and I wasn't getting them good enough to do the model justice. so I then got the laser cut parts unfortunately these don't include tracks!

As I live in Wiltshire I thought I would put my own markings on the tank for the Wiltshire Yeomanry who had Shermans first at Alamein and then regrouped in Syria before moving on to Italy.there is only one drawback in that the Wiltshire Yeomanry were withdrawn at about the same time as the firefly was brought into operation with regiments based in Italy, so I'm going to stretch the facts a bit.

I have the English instructions for the kit and they suggest starting with the turret. But I'm going to start with the tracks and hopefully the new kit enthusiasm will get me through cutting out all the bits.

I have made a slow start on this model doing odd bits here and there starting with some of the metal parts at work mainly those that needed fabricating.

there are a lot of track parts, there are 200 tracks and I am making some extra as added armour so I have cut 430 track pins.
the smallest bits are some 2 mill square blocks by mil thick I had to cut them into strips and then seal the sides with superglue before cutting into squares otherwise they were delaminating.

the above picture shows the thicker card parts. The killer is going to be cutting out all the holes.
