film of resotration Enterprise

Hello Everyone

Just to let you all know, I was a model builder up until I needed glasses. My oldest boy can put plastic models together with the best of them. I know on this forum it's paper replicas which I think is real interesting. Now I just want to explore the forum and get ideas of building paper models. Thank you all for letting me in.

I'm Jealous!

AirVenture Oshkosh wraps up today. And my daughter Ingrid got herself a ride in the Commemorative Air Force P-51. She declared it "awesome."

FG UH-1D "Huey"

Miles' comment in my WH40K Steam Tank thread reminded me that I never shared any photos of the Huey medevac 'copter that I built specifically for Army Heritage Days this year - the theme of the event was the Vietnam War.

Anyway, the Bell UH-1 Iroquois was originally designated as the HU-1, which lead to the popular, but unofficial name, "Huey". This model by Fiddler's Green was designed by Aaron Murphy, and it's a real honey. Mine is 1/50 scale, based on the rotor diameter.

I encountered no issues during the build. The most difficult part to form was the nose, with 2 sets of petals to deal with. The assembly that required the most thought and study was the main rotor hub. Some of the parts needed for the central hub don't come with the kit. The rotor blades themselves are 3 layers thick. I made sure that the grain in the middle layer runs in the opposite direction to minimize the anticipated droop. The green hue of my model is awfully garish, closer to chartreuse than olive drab but that may be the fault of my printer.

I chose a black and white action photo of an impending medevac for my base. The display base and its elevating stalk were textured with a mottled grey tone. I'm very happy with the way this one turned out.

A day at ICN

I visited ICN today, took a lot of photos (most of them are rubbish) and had a cup of lemonade.

Week 28 & 29

Here's a special salute to these two guys , who are highly appreciated by everybody, but never got a POTW, thanks for all your contributions Sir Gary and Sir Bruno:)

R.A.F. Hangar: ~1/200 scale

I just started and finished this today and decided to add my 1/200 se.5a to it. The diorama is a little too small (I don't quite remember the scale because I printed this a while ago) for the plane but it still looks good together. I may add some trees or rocks or something to make it more 3d and realistic but here it is for now with a bonus blurry picture of my cat inspecting its quality:).

WH40K Steam Tank

I just finished my 3rd Warhammer tank and thought I'd share a few photos. This one was designed by Iskander Gaffurov, and springs from his own imagination. It isn't an "official" tank from the Warhammer Universe. It's a fantasy vehicle, within a fantasy world. Fantasy squared.

I did a bit of Photoshop repainting on this one. Assembly wasn't complicated, but it was time consuming with all the layering that these models require. The tracks were a pain in the butt: each link is a separate piece that has been laminated to black cardstock, scored, and formed with a mountain fold and two valley folds. I've seen this model built by others who chose to leave the links flat. I'm a bit of a masochist I guess, but I do like the look of the shaped track links better so it was worth the extra time spent.

Enjoy the pics!

LED Light Bar Arch

Ever see something while cruising the internet and wish you had made a note of it? This last week I saw a great idea of a curved arch of LED light with the idea of adding light to a dark work area. My southern exposure at my modeling table gives me a light of light. However on foggy days it's a bit gloomy. Some one made a arch with LED lights on it. Each end was mounted to a block of wood with weights added (I think) and it was about three feet of separation at the base with a curve of these LED lights. Has anyone else seen this? If it doesn't cost too much I could really use it on dark days. I wish I had looked closer at it. Hell of a idea. Thanks for any help you can offer. wc

met Ophaalbrug en Roeiboot

Or, for our non Dutch speakers - Drawbridge with row boat.
*
Looking back it looks as if I've become a fan of kits by Leon Schuijt, this one must be the most unusual in that it's a bridge rather than a single building. The buildings are based on thoses found in the Zaanse district of Holland.
*
One problem I had deciding to buy the kit was that there were no pictures of the finished model, just an "artist's impression". I decided to buy it because I like the Dutch style drawbridge.
*
The base is folded to produce the ditch for the river - or is it a dyke. This leaves an area under the ground level and I'm not too happy with my efforts to cover it up. The base sheet has the thick black line round the edge, so you can see the problem I had.
*
The kit is quite simple and the only addition I made was to copy the pattern of the gables onto the reverse. I put the wall face down on my light box and drew the lines with a thin marker pen. There is an element of scratch building for the railings on the bridge. The instructions are to use matchsticks, but I used balsa instead because it's shape is more regular than a match and easier to cut.
*
The finished village is about 17* X 12 inches. It was a bit of fun and a million miles away from the miniature details of the Steam Roller!
*
Cheers
*
Mike

White Lion from Canon

After putting the head on a plaque I decided to build the model.

The model has open spaces at the back of the legs and some open spaces on the underside of the body.

Here is the punk head posted earlier:

Here are some photos of parts 1-19 assembled (You can see some of the open spaces referred to earlier.):

Nice background, eh?

The parts go together easy enough. The shape of the parts give indications as to where the glue tabs go when joining parts. A dry fit before glueing clears up any minor confusion as to the placement. Some areas have a modified alternating glue tab arrangement.

Updates sometime in the (not so) near future.:)

Tatebanko on eBay

The Japanese Woodblock Print seller Fuji Arts has just placed 9 different tatebanko sets of prints on the Ebay website. Seller = "fujiarts", and then search on "model". They run regular auctions on their own site, and occasionally reach out to use eBay. Mostly Kabuki scenes, printed at the end of the 19C. Not inexpensive.

Another 'HELLO' from Ohio

I've been reading the forum for many years....just have never posted.
So......"Hello!"

I am currently working on a scratch built 'Rocket Ship Galileo' in 1/190 size.
Heinlein's 1947 book of the same name was my introduction to science fiction novels back in the late 1950s. Always meant to built the ship.

Future Builds

Currently gone through a withdrawal mode recently from Model making, but slowly getting into it again, won't post details in advance of any builds I've done or am planning on doing, just will post photo's of the finished products once completed.

Display cases

I make display cases out of Perspex obtained as offcuts from a local supplier. He is kind enough to supply solvent if I take a bottle.
I remember as a boy buying chloroform for the purpose from the chemist. Just imagine...
Perspex cuts easily with a hacksaw but you have to be very accurate. I clean up the edges and do any adjustments on a milling machine.
I use thicker material for the base and tap 6BA for brass countersunk screws.

Answer - Jelcz 325 Tow Truck

Lately I have been working on the theme model's for my local club meetings. Every other month there is a theme. I built the Maksart Toros for August's animal theme and decided to start on something for October's Orange and Black theme.

After reviewing my inventory, I found two orange models and picked the lesser of the two so I have a good chance of meeting my deadline.

So without further ado here is the beginning of an orange tow truck.

First Issue is there is no legend for determining laminating marks (stars). There are one, two and three stars marked and then there are a few parts with specific mm thicknesses. The written instructions are few and translating some of them does not tell me anything useful. Measuring some of the locating marks has lead me to believe the star markings correspond to: * - Bristol, ** - 0.5 mm and *** - 1 mm. Hope I'm right...

Second issue is the paper Answer uses. It has enough of a gloss that it does not take my Aleene's well, so I have to use Crafter's Choice which I find harder to work with.

This company is AAA and I will work as tech support on the A-350 !!!

Now back to the buissness .
Today I finished Murphs models Xian H6 at 1/100 scale
Nothing to say . The fitting is perfect.
Best regards from France .
