Soften the Jaws of Hemostats

My wife got me a set of hemostats for x-mas thinking that they'd be good for applying pressure to pieces as parts dry. To her credit, she thought by the images that the jaws would be smooth so that it wouldn't damage the paper, but sure enough they are ridged. Is there anything I can do to soften the jaws? I was thinking that maybe I've seen some alligator clips having plastic over their jaws.

Any ideas?
