Finished a few birds recently. Thought I would share. I never get tired of these well designed kits. I scratched built the stands.

Determing size fro
I'm having a little trouble finding the right spot for this but I planned to extract some 3D models from a game for papercrafting but then realized I don't really have any point of reference for their dimensions within the game. This is a problem since then lack a way to print them in scale with one another. I have been googling this subject for a few days but have only found information on scaling in terms of making things simply larger or smaller and not proportionally "correct" as it were. Does anyone know if it it's possible to derive the "real life" physical dimensions of a 3D model and if so how? Again, sorry if this is the wrong section.
From a long time away of this forum...
I am again... i dont remember if these model were here... but ... i am happy...:) a T 34
Xebec/Chebec/Dhow
I am looking for a model, either waterline or otherwise, of a xebec, or a dhow if I can't find one of those.
I have seen the Hellier and Amanti wood models, but I was hoping that someone might have a paper model of one (or know where to buy one). thanks!

Haste makes...
Since I'd given away my copy of AirDave's Tardis, I wanted one for myself, and tried to crank it out in one night after a long day at work.
If you aren't familiar with this model, the only tedious part is cutting out the 32 little rectangles and edging them. Made great progress, but it was getting late with only having to attach the roof. I was very afraid of the white tab peaking out from under the roof on the front edge, so I took extreme care to get the front edge just right, but when I glued down the sides and back, there was my (at that time) greatest fear ... white peaking out.
Keep in mind that I was up at 6:30 in the morning, worked ten hours and stubbornly decided that I was going to do this in one night. So I gently worked the hobby knife under the edge to lift the roof so I could use my blue pen to take care of the offensive whiteness.
Honest, I just barely touched it, but the ink sucked into the paper turning what had been a problem with a hardly noticeable white line into the gigantic blue blotch from hell, as illustrated in the first two photos.
This morning before going to a meeting, I printed up a slightly enlarged roof and covered my error. So learn from my error. If you think you are too tired, you probably are.

Google Earth Pro for Free
Hi all,
As some of you know, I spend my non forum/modeling time as a Cartographer, and as such, I have been exposed to many pieces of mapping software, or spatial visualization software.
In the case of the latter, Google has released their Google Earth Pro for free.
Visit Google Lat Long: Google Earth Pro is now free to download the software and request the free license key.
In the case of Leif's Flight Sim advertures you could actually research some of the demographic data that is included, of every stop on the trip.
I hope this inspires someone, and most of all, have fun with it

another 1/50 armor site
I was surfing the interwebs the other day and came across this Russian website chock full of really nice 1/50 scale armor models. The style and quality of the models is very similar to those found on the Robotetehnik site. Just click on any picture, and a popup will open with a large picture of the model and a download link. Downloads are very fast.
Always on the lookout for pirate sites (Yarharr, fiddley dee!), I ran this lnk by the administrator before posting. This one seems to be a legit source of high quality original free models.

Scud 2 glider, 1/72, Scissorsandplanes
As promised, I have put the Scud 2 from Scissorsandplanes at the top of my building list.
So here is the model. It is resized to 1:72. I have made a cockpit in the fuselage and transparent panels for the rear of the wing.
It is really an excellent model of a very interesting machine (the oldest airworthy english glider).

Uhu02's "Interstellar" Lander
Here is my build of the Lander from Uhu02's Endurance model from the movie "Interstellar." I like the Lander because it has a boxy look of faux functionality, and with that nose, four outriggers and the engines in the rear, it looks like an updated version of the Eagle from "Space: 1999."
Uhu02's Lander is fairly small because it is scaled to fit his Endurance model. I wanted a larger version, so I scaled it up to twice the original size. Since I have zero computer-graphics skills, I did it the old-school way by photocopying the original parts at 200%.
Doing it that way does two things, neither of them good. For one thing, it fuzzies up some of the detail. Secondly, it enlarges any gaps that exist. In the small scale of the original model, the gaps aren't that noticeable. Enlarged 200%, you have some gaps to fill with spare card.
I built the model stock except for adding detail to the two rectangular hatches on the side, and I also added what appears to be sliding covers for the four forward windows and the four windows on the upper sides of the nose. I also added the ring around the upper and lower airlock hatches.
I also wasn't crazy about Uhu02's engine nozzles, which had too much orange in them for my tastes (and doubled in size, the orange jumps out at you) so I used his parts as templates to cut new nozzles from dark-gray cardstock.
With all its interesting tile detail, the Lander is a vehicle that cries out for a larger-scale model. I wish somebody would offer one....

TFP Bumblebee Simplified
Hello papercraft friends :)
Well, I was roaming through cyberspace today and I found some interesting things that I thought I'd share. Maybe they'll help me get back into modeling, maybe not, but I did feel like writing something here. This is still a place I like to "be" ;)
First, I found a blog where a student used my TFP Bumblebee blueprints for a 3D modeling school project: Games, Films & everything VFX: Officially a Visual Effects & Concept Design student @StaffsUni :D (scroll down). It's quite interesting, seeing something I did used somewhere else. She also created a video called TinyPaperCars App, including Bumblebee and Ratchet (again, with my textures): http://ift.tt/169rj2u. How cool is that? :D
But the image on her blog (and also these TFP robot papercrafts: Transformers Wars) gave me the idea of trying a simplified Bumblebee modelsomething that non-paper modelers could do quite easily. I kind of played with the idea a bit in Gimp:
Needless to say, that is the blog image and not mine. I could have fired up the old Dell and taken my own screenshot, but then I thought, hey, this is already here, I might as well use it... The only thing I take credit for is the green lines drawn over the top of the image.
I'm pretty much accepting the loss of my beloved ZModeler 1.07b, but I found a few new 3D modeling programs that I might try out: Art of Illusion, Ayam, MeshLab, and Misfit Model 3D. Basically, I'm hoping for a polygon/mesh modeler that runs on Linux and is similar to ZModeler, but does not have too steep of a learning curve (I kind of find it disheartening to spend 2 hours tryingand failingto make something that I know I could do in 20 minutes if I had my choice of software). We'll see if a suitable replacement exists ;)
On a slightly unrelated note, someone actually built my Ironhide model! It's the only other one I know of:
(Image from IRP Papercraft • Ver Tema - Ironhide modo vehiculo)
Another user on the same forum built my TFP Bumblebee, with some modifications:
(Image from IRP Papercraft • Ver Tema - Bumblebee Chevrolet Camaro (Repaint Version))
Maybe I just needed some inspiration to get back into modeling (although... having software I can use helps too XD). I know learning something new takes time, I just don't have as much free time now as I did when I learned ZModeler. I think that even if I do get back into papermodeling, I probably won't be able to finish any of the requests that are waiting in the wings. There are several, unfortunately... I really do hate to let anyone down but I just cannot reasonably say I'd have the time or be in the mood to finish them, so my sincere apologies for that :(
Sorry to end on a bit of sad note; I hope everyone will find all the models they're looking for regardless :)

Fishcarver have passed away
Dear Fellow Modelers,
I am not sure if this is the proper forum for this however, to the administrators - my advance apology. I just wanted to inform everyone of the passing of my dear friend and our colleague, Fishcarver. I don't know if anyone else knew him in person but allow me to refer you to this link regarding his passing.
http://ift.tt/1A7jJlH
I have no information about the arrangement for his service but I was told to keep watch on the Winnipeg Free Press of further announcement.
Again, sorry for the inappropriate post.

Contemplating Retirement
Looking for a hobby. This looks like fun, but I've never tried anything like this. Been reading posts for a while and I think I'm going to try an airliner firstone that doesn't look too tough. Can't wait to get started.
Cheers.
Cheers.
Is it possible?
I have a copy of Poser, which is a nice 3d rendering program, I was wondering if there is a way to take a model from it and use as a 3d model to create a paper model with. Or do I need to import it into something else before going into Pepakura? There are a few models in there that I would like to make into paper models but I'm lost.

Models Pulled from Downloads
Hi, Folks,
Just giving everyone a heads up that I have temporarily pulled all of my models from the Downloads section.
I'm in the process of updating all of my older models, and will have them back up as soon as I'm done with the changes. I'm also working on updating my blog page which has been sadly neglected as I've been working on new models.
Unfortunately, since I replaced my phone last year, I no longer own a digital camera that will take a 640x480 photo, so I haven't been able to share my newest projects here, but I have been showing their progress on Facebook, so you can check them out there.

Amun-Re Egyptian Temple Model
Hi all,
I discovered a very nice little architecture model that I had in one of my drives;
It is a straightforward yet very effective model design of an ancient Egyptian temple, dedicated to the sun god Horus (Amon-Ra/ Amun-Re). The designer, the well-known Thomas Pleiner of Germany, drew this model by hand back in 1986 for the Schreiber-Bogen publisher, stating in a forum that is loosely resembles a similar temple to the Moon god Chons at Thebes (Karnak) along the Nile valley, and that the design of the entrance also resembles a Horus temple at Idfu (Edfu). Based on these, this is, however, a free interpretation by the designer.
If you happen to be versed in the German tounge, here is a link to Thomas' own build thread (from 2006) at Archiv Kartonmodellbau-Online (with models and threads from the previous Kartonmodell-Forum.de), where he also shows some lovely, and rather amusing photos (check out the little construction 'helpers'): Horus-Tempel (Schreiber-Bogen) - ARCHITEKTUR - Kartonmodellbau-Online ? Archiv für den Kartonmodellbau ? www.papermodels.de
Having found this little gem again, I printed it out on thin copy paper in my laser printer (A4 size) and started cutting out the parts. I soon realized that I needed a solid base for the model - so, I first reinforced the bottom plate to a heavy cardstock, then I made a larger one, with rounded edges, from thick gray card, which I painted sand brown with lasur paint. This is the result (the black spot is where I will make a '3-D' entrance door to the inner temple):
I then started to score all the parts (backside-scoring mostly, with a thin needle, to avoid breaking the fibres on the printed side) and folded them according to the instructions. Here they are laid out over the base plate:
A simple 'dry-fitting' of the parts shows the approximate look of the finished Amun-Re temple model:
The next step will be to make sides for the door-post to the inner temple. I think I will use the drawings (printed in the same light-brown color) in the instructions for this, I think the material might suffice in length. I want to make the door slightly 'sunken in' or retracted just a little bit into the front wall, which requires approximately 4mm of material on four sides (or at least three, I can use gray or black in the upper part).
I will then also reinforce the longer, bigger parts with light card stock, to make them perfectly flat, as this paper is very light (only 80 grams) so it needs a backing. Thanks to the thin paper, however, the folds and joints will be very small, and so not much edge painting will be needed, just a little here and there with a very thin brush of water color.
I will then make some web research to find out whether any other form of decoration might have been used above the entrance, perhaps long straws of Papyrus? (as small flag poles) or the like.
I'll post some more photos as I have started glueing the whole thing together. Until then -
all the best from Stockholm,
Bengt
PS.
Here are a couple of links to the model, which is a FREE download these days, the first is to our 'old' sister forum Zealot/ Cardmodelers.net:

Software used
Sorry if this is already posted elsewhere. (Im super new to this forum). As someone who has a degree in 3D modeling I know how important it is for textures, but even more importantly is a good piece of software. So, what do people use for software?
Thanks,

Etiquette of Publishing Kit-Bashed Models
Hey all, I'm very new to the hobby. I've only done three models (one's in the last stages) and intend on sticking to unmanned satellite and space craft subjects. As a plastic military aircraft builder I'm no stranger to and not averse to kit-bashing - taking parts from one kit that will fit better, or improve the detail of another kit.
In paper models though, I wonder where the line is?
Let's say that I download someone's plans that are 1/48th scale and bump it to 1/24th (my preferred scale at the moment). There's a lot of cutting and redesigning needed to fit the big parts now 200% larger onto A4 stock. In addition, what was added as a graphic (think thruster or instrument panel) by the original designer can now be replaced with a suitable part. But I'm not smart enough to calculate circumferences, so I'd rather grab the part from someone else's model whose modeled that part already.
Okay, that's well and good for me but, I put the effort into figuring out what to put where, and maybe there's someone else out there who'd like the option of my bash. Is my work publishable - maybe I should rather say "sharable"? Should I include a bibliography of sorts to list contributors even if I put no effort into asking their permission?
I ask because, you know, plagiarism. And frankly, respect. There's a lot of talented designers and I don't hold a candle to you guys. Hmm, I don't hold an xacto knife to you guys? So I appreciate your opinions before I cross that line.

Paper Replika Sherman Fury 1/33
Well, I've talked about having built this enough, so I figured I would finally post some pictures. This is pretty much a stock build though I did resize it to 1/33. I reinforced the bottom section of the hull by laminating a second piece of 67# card stock. The tracks are triple layered, I added a little detail to the flexible guns, and opened up the muzzle. The kit went together pretty easily, just a little time consuming with all the track parts and the little fiddly light cages and handles.

Cotswold village 1950s?
Perhaps someone else will remember this.
Back in the 1950s my father was starting to build a OO model railway in our cellar in Bishop's Castle, Shropshire, UK. He had a set of card model buildings that I believe came with a book about Cotswold villages, and for some reason I think it was a Penguin or Pelican publication. It may have come to his attention through his being the art master at the local school.
When we moved house he changed scale to TT for his next layout and the buildings disappeared.
I've never been able to find out any more about it but I do have an old photo of the railway (as far as it got before we moved) with the models in the background.
Anyone know anything about them?

Anyone Heard From Matthew?
Hey,
Anyone know if Matthew (RunwayOneSixRight) is still around?
I came across some railroad drawings the other day that reminded me of something he was asking about, and suddenly realized he hasn't been here since the beginning of December.

This is our console collection of most generations (about 60) and hundreds of games.
Maybe i should put one alcove aside for paper models of consoles?

Apollo Command Module pictures on Flickr Collection
The drawback of pictures in a build thread is that they tend to slowly disappear. Same for the phantastic Apollo CM designed by Ken West, test built by Billy Leliveld. He recently sent me a series of super pictures, and I have just put a small selection on http://ift.tt/1saIMwS
I hope this will stimulate others to send me pictures of their builds. PLEASE NOTE: I want everything and everything (as long as it's paper models), NOT JUST SUPER BUILDS! My only real concern: the pictures must be sharp. Just add publisher, scale and your own name. Send to, or contact me at da.denbakker@planet.nl
