I have decided to begin work on a completely new model. It will be a 1:240 scale Peterborough Cathedral. Peterborugh Cathedral is one of Europe's grandest Norman Churches and alongside Ely and Norwich, it completes the group of the three great cathedrals in the mid-eastern part of England. On the whole it presents few problems for the model designer but what it lacks in complexity of detail from the nave to the retrochoir at the eastern end, it more than makes up for at the extreme west end. Inorder to understand how the roofs, towers and arches fit together there, I have had to study the evolution of the west facade from its quite simple Norman beginnings to its Early English form which is so utterly dominant today. As model designing can be quite addictive, I am now only working on this design at night so that my painting does not suffer, so this is going to be a pretty slow build!
