Johannisburg Castle

I'm afraid, I can't remember where I first saw the kit. It's quite rare outside Germany - I'm told that there's one in Holland and I have the only other two kits.

As you may imagine - trying to pay for the kits was an experience because the publisher was not too aware of international payments. Anyway, we did sort out the payment and I received the kits.

I think the reason I bought the kit was because of the symmetry and I've always liked straight lines - sad, I know, but that's life.

So, on to the kit. The parts fit well and the printing is very good. There is one problem with the printing, but it's not easy to spot - although, if you look carefully at the pictures, you may notice it. It's a kit in two parts, the large flat walls and roofs, Thomas would love it - all the dormers are just printed - no separate building needed!. The second part is the corner towers. These are much smaller parts and a lot more fiddly than the first part.

For the domes I cut off all the tabs and just spent ages holding the butt joints together. Is it worth it? I'm not sure but I'm willing to do it.

There is one area I would change and that's the gables over the two doors. The spires and "pointy bits" are very small and are easily bent when assembling the walls and roofs. Perhaps the triangular pars should be separate and added at the end.

The base is 38X37mm and I added a base to make it more ridged.

BTW the castle is in Aschaffenburg which is on the eastern side of Germany.

Sorry about the sideways pic - It's that camera again ;-(

Cheers

Mike
