Logic would dictate that the larger the device, the more battery-intensive it will be, which isn’t too far from the truth. As technology advances, however, battery life has been taken into consideration and device manufacturers have done very well in that regard. Case in point, my device……the Samsung Galaxy Note 3. The battery is huge, and it needs to be, but Sammy has done a good job with its battery saving features, and of course there are settings and other tweaks one can make to extend the battery life. I am generally able to get through an entire day from 5-6am up to 10-11pm and have at least a trace of battery life left, which is pretty darn good for a device this size, but when Seidio offered to let us try out an Innocell extended battery, I jumped at the chance.
There are some out there (Del) who think the Note is too big, so to add an extended battery and its accompanying battery cover, one might think that’s overkill, not to mention putting a case on top of all that. To me, the device alone with its regular battery and no case is too light. I like to feel a little “heft” with my devices, which is one of the reasons (aside from the obvious protection) I prefer to wrap it in a case of some sort. While the Innocell extended battery adds a little more of that “heft” to the device, it’s not as much as you might think. Don’t get me wrong…..it’s a beast of a battery as you can tell from the picture, but it doesn’t add too much weight to the device.

Let’s have a look at the description as outlined on the Seidio website:
This product is not compatible with Seidio's SURFACE™ with Metal Kickstand, DILEX™ with Metal Kickstand, SURFACE™ Holster, or DILEX™Holster. This product does support NFC.
Tired of running out of battery life when you need it the most? When you can’t get to an outlet, our Innocell ® Extended Life Batteries will keep you moving forward. Our Extended Life Batteries utilize premium Japanese cells to ensure the highest levels of safety and performance. Extended Life Batteries can offer up to 50% more battery life than your stock battery.*
- Comes with a black replacement door that is smooth and polished
- Keeps your phone charged and ready to go, even with heavy phone and data usage
- Capacity: 4800mAh
- NFC: A very-short-range wireless connectivity that enables quick, secure two-way interactions among electronic devices. It is most often used as a credit card, debit card, transit pass, or any type of stored-value card for financial transactions
* All battery life claims are dependent upon usage patterns, network configuration and many other factors; actual results may vary.
In order to obtain the full capacity of your Seidio battery, we highly recommend that you leave the battery/your phone on the charger for an additional 2-3 hours after the charging indicator turns green or the battery status shows full. Continue for 5-6 charging cycles for optimal performance.
The Innocell extended battery offers a 4800mAh capacity, which is half again the capacity of the stock battery. The extra “juice” has come in handy a couple times already for me, being out and about in the evenings, running kids here and there. Seidio’s recommendation, as noted above, is to charge through 5-6 cycles for optimal performance. I think I’m on day five as of today and it’s been readily obvious that the battery is lasting longer with each cycle. As it stands, I’m seeing on average a 40-50% charge left on the battery at the end of the day. Pretty darn good, and what one would expect with a $70.00 battery. Not the cheapest you’ll find out there, but my experience dictates that Seidio provides some of the highest quality aftermarket products available.
The Innocell comes with a battery cover in your choice of black or white. I don’t particularly care for the finish on the cover…..a very shiny plastic, which is a fingerprint magnet. I would also think it would be prone to scratches, but y’all know me…..I didn’t waste any time wrapping it with the DILEX case made to fit over the extended battery cover. :) My guess on the choice of material is because Seidio doesn’t want to be in the “battery cover” business (although that’s not a half bad idea and something you should think about, Seidio!). It would’ve been nice, however to have a battery cover that closely resembles the stock cover of the device should one decide to not to put the device in a case. Maybe even step it up a notch and use real leather! But I digress. Sadly, I’ve been told they have no plans to change the material.

As mentioned above, I also received the DILEX Series case that accommodates the Innocell Extended Battery and Cover. You can read my review of the regular DILEX case HERE , but I will add a couple of points to that in this review.

First, at this point the DILEX Extended is available only in black. I didn’t ask if Seidio had plans to offer additional colors in the future. The case retails for $34.95. Seidio offers a holster for this case at $29.95 which has been slightly modified to accommodate the Extended Battery. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again…..in my humble opinion, Seidio’s holsters are the best on the market.
My last comment pertains to the interior polymer portion of the DILEX case. I’d like to see this piece made a lot firmer. In my opinion, it’s too pliable and easily pulled away from the device. It is also prone to collecting dust. Make it firmer and more dust-resistant and this would be the perfect case!
So there you have it. Another great set of products from one of our favorite companies. Thanks again, Seidio for your continued support!
