App Testing

I have had the opportunity to test a large number of apps both free and premium and was planning on doing some reviews. For the most part most of the apps wasn't for me nor did they really live up to the billing.

When it was all said and done I am now running fewer apps than I was before I started testing. Gone is my Task Manager, Greenify, messaging app, and more.

All in all my device is performing at a more efficient rate, faster, battery is superb. I did add two new ones, anti-virus and All-In-One Toobox Pro.

REVIEW: OtterBox Defender Series for Samsung Galaxy Note 3

Let’s face it…..the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 is a BIG device. The task at hand for case makers is to come up with designs that protect, yet don’t add too much bulk or heft to an already large device. It’s a challenge for sure, but OtterBox has risen to the occasion with the iteration of their Defender Series for the Note 3.

When Kristen over at OtterBox offered me the opportunity to review a Defender Series case, I just HAD to choose the Camo/Blaze Orange one since I live in the heart of redneck NASCAR country. :)

1.jpg2.jpg3.jpg

The Defender provides multi-layer protection, completely enclosing the device, starting with a two-piece polycarbonate shell that includes a built-in screen cover. The shell snaps together over the device with a secure, tight fit. A synthetic rubber slip cover is then applied over the inner shell to provide further protection from bumps, drops and shocks. This piece incorporates port covers for the charging and headphone ports as well as rubber extensions over the device controls for ease of use and operation. Screen responsiveness is just as if there was no screen protection built into the case. The “back” and “menu” buttons and other operations at the bottom of the screen can be a little tricky to use if you’re fat-fingered like me, but there’s definitely enough room for these controls to be accessible. Side controls are very easy to manipulate via the extensions on the slip cover. The port covers are very stiff to open and access, but I think that’s a good thing if you want to feel comfortable with the protection. Thankfully the cutout for the headphone port is large enough to accommodate aftermarket headsets (y’all know my pet peeve about that!).

4.jpg5.jpg6.jpg7.jpg8.jpgHandheld.jpg

The Defender comes with a belt-clip holster that adjusts to several different positions. The case has orange plastic tabs on both sides to lock the device into place in the holster. The belt-clip will even lock into place for use as a kickstand for watching videos and such.

Kickstand.jpg

The Defender case does not impede call clarity or device sounds in any way. The camouflage portion is a little slick, but the outer synthetic rubber piece provides for a great grip and feel. You all know how picky and anal I am about my devices and cases, but I really like this Defender Series case! The Defender comes in 7 different color combinations with 6 of them retailing at $59.95 including the holster. The Max 5 Blaze reviewed here retails for $69.95. This is a great case for those who work outdoors or in demanding environments, or even folks like me who live in NASCAR territory and want to fit in! :)

Stop in to www.OtterBox.com for more info on the Defender Series or choose from the dozens of other cases available for this device or yours!

Thanks again to Kristen and OtterBox for the opportunity to review your great products!

just got my Nokia Lumia 520

Just got my L520 and I feel like a kid in a candy store with a $1000 budget. Internet explorer is brilliant, I don't known why its so underrated.

one thing I really appreciate is how fast and we'll this phone works with EDGE (2G) , I don't really need 3G anymore except for YouTube and video streaming. I have however noticed a few hiccups (not permanent or bad enough to be called bugs)

but absolutely no laggs or freezes.

also haven't really found any apps lacking that I generally use however I miss opera browser and BS player.

although as much as I like it, Android has spoiled me with all the feature ritch apps and available choice so it will take quite some time for me to settle down with my L520.

battery life so far is very disappointing as I should get about 5-6 hours of browsing but only get 2-3 so far, I'm not sure if the battery just needs to balance out.

REVIEW: Seidio Innocell® 4800mAh Extended Life Battery with NFC

Logic would dictate that the larger the device, the more battery-intensive it will be, which isn’t too far from the truth. As technology advances, however, battery life has been taken into consideration and device manufacturers have done very well in that regard. Case in point, my device……the Samsung Galaxy Note 3. The battery is huge, and it needs to be, but Sammy has done a good job with its battery saving features, and of course there are settings and other tweaks one can make to extend the battery life. I am generally able to get through an entire day from 5-6am up to 10-11pm and have at least a trace of battery life left, which is pretty darn good for a device this size, but when Seidio offered to let us try out an Innocell extended battery, I jumped at the chance.

There are some out there (Del) who think the Note is too big, so to add an extended battery and its accompanying battery cover, one might think that’s overkill, not to mention putting a case on top of all that. To me, the device alone with its regular battery and no case is too light. I like to feel a little “heft” with my devices, which is one of the reasons (aside from the obvious protection) I prefer to wrap it in a case of some sort. While the Innocell extended battery adds a little more of that “heft” to the device, it’s not as much as you might think. Don’t get me wrong…..it’s a beast of a battery as you can tell from the picture, but it doesn’t add too much weight to the device.

1.jpg

Let’s have a look at the description as outlined on the Seidio website:

Quote:

This product is not compatible with Seidio's SURFACE™ with Metal Kickstand, DILEX™ with Metal Kickstand, SURFACE™ Holster, or DILEX™Holster. This product does support NFC.

Tired of running out of battery life when you need it the most? When you can’t get to an outlet, our Innocell ® Extended Life Batteries will keep you moving forward. Our Extended Life Batteries utilize premium Japanese cells to ensure the highest levels of safety and performance. Extended Life Batteries can offer up to 50% more battery life than your stock battery.*

- Comes with a black replacement door that is smooth and polished

- Keeps your phone charged and ready to go, even with heavy phone and data usage

- Capacity: 4800mAh

- NFC: A very-short-range wireless connectivity that enables quick, secure two-way interactions among electronic devices. It is most often used as a credit card, debit card, transit pass, or any type of stored-value card for financial transactions

* All battery life claims are dependent upon usage patterns, network configuration and many other factors; actual results may vary.

In order to obtain the full capacity of your Seidio battery, we highly recommend that you leave the battery/your phone on the charger for an additional 2-3 hours after the charging indicator turns green or the battery status shows full. Continue for 5-6 charging cycles for optimal performance.

The Innocell extended battery offers a 4800mAh capacity, which is half again the capacity of the stock battery. The extra “juice” has come in handy a couple times already for me, being out and about in the evenings, running kids here and there. Seidio’s recommendation, as noted above, is to charge through 5-6 cycles for optimal performance. I think I’m on day five as of today and it’s been readily obvious that the battery is lasting longer with each cycle. As it stands, I’m seeing on average a 40-50% charge left on the battery at the end of the day. Pretty darn good, and what one would expect with a $70.00 battery. Not the cheapest you’ll find out there, but my experience dictates that Seidio provides some of the highest quality aftermarket products available.

The Innocell comes with a battery cover in your choice of black or white. I don’t particularly care for the finish on the cover…..a very shiny plastic, which is a fingerprint magnet. I would also think it would be prone to scratches, but y’all know me…..I didn’t waste any time wrapping it with the DILEX case made to fit over the extended battery cover. :) My guess on the choice of material is because Seidio doesn’t want to be in the “battery cover” business (although that’s not a half bad idea and something you should think about, Seidio!). It would’ve been nice, however to have a battery cover that closely resembles the stock cover of the device should one decide to not to put the device in a case. Maybe even step it up a notch and use real leather! But I digress. Sadly, I’ve been told they have no plans to change the material.

2.jpg3.jpg4.jpg

As mentioned above, I also received the DILEX Series case that accommodates the Innocell Extended Battery and Cover. You can read my review of the regular DILEX case HERE , but I will add a couple of points to that in this review.

5.jpg6.jpg7.jpg8.jpg9.jpg10.jpg11.jpg12.jpg

First, at this point the DILEX Extended is available only in black. I didn’t ask if Seidio had plans to offer additional colors in the future. The case retails for $34.95. Seidio offers a holster for this case at $29.95 which has been slightly modified to accommodate the Extended Battery. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again…..in my humble opinion, Seidio’s holsters are the best on the market.

My last comment pertains to the interior polymer portion of the DILEX case. I’d like to see this piece made a lot firmer. In my opinion, it’s too pliable and easily pulled away from the device. It is also prone to collecting dust. Make it firmer and more dust-resistant and this would be the perfect case!

So there you have it. Another great set of products from one of our favorite companies. Thanks again, Seidio for your continued support!

REVIEW: Seidio LEDGER View with Metal Kickstand for Note 3

A couple of new products from Solavei have found their way into our hot little hands. Today’s episode will feature the Seidio LEDGER View with Metal Kickstand, which is a “flip case designed for those that desire protection and functionality without sacrificing the aesthetic look of their device.”

The LEDGER features a view window which allows you to view alerts and other vital information, as well as answer phone calls. The flip cover is made from Italian Polyurethane and has a cloth-like texture which is available in Dark Gray and the Red you see here in this review. Can’t quite put my finger on why, but I personally don’t care for the feel of this material. The inside of the flip cover is a soft microfiber material that protects the screen and contains an internal magnet that activates the device’s sleeper function by turning screen off when the cover is closed. The device automatically awakens when you open the cover.

FrontBlank.jpgFrontCoverVertical.jpgRightSide.jpg

I think you can notice this from the pictures, but the cover doesn’t quite sit right over the front of my device, so the sleep mechanism tended to act a little flaky if I moved my device around some. The display would change back and forth from sleep mode to view mode at the slightest movement. I had to move on to another product review, so I haven’t used the LEDGER since, but perhaps the cover will settle in over time and adjust to sit properly over the screen once I start using it again. Also, the view window has some noticeable scratches. The outer portion was covered with a protector upon arrival, and I’m pretty sure there was also protection on the inside of the case, I’m not sure how they got there, but the scratches were on the inside of the view window.

You’ll notice that there are cutouts at the top of cover for the LED indicator and the speaker. That’s obviously so you can see your message indicator and to make the phone usable with the cover closed. The view window will come to life with notification of a phone call or any other such notification you may have set, but otherwise the cover keeps the device asleep to conserve your battery life.

LEDSpeakerView.jpg

The LEDGER is not unlike the flip cover Samung sells, but among the extra features it has over the Samsung cover, it comes with the Metal Kickstand Seidio has implemented in many of its cases the past few years. This feature is almost a necessity when it comes to today’s larger devices. Definitely beats trying to prop the device up on something to watch a YouTube video or scroll through your favorite social media app.

Back.jpgKickstand.jpgLandscapeView.jpg

The LEDGER snaps in place in lieu of the device’s battery cover. You can see the cutouts for the camera and side buttons, as well as the openness on the top and bottom for access to the ports, pen and such.

Speaking of ports, this has been a pet peeve of mine with other cases that I’m not sure I’ve mentioned before. While maybe not entirely perfect, you can tell Seidio puts a lot of thought into the design of its cases. If you’re like me, I’m sure you have a favorite headset or set of earbuds that you use constantly. I can’t tell you how annoying it is when the jack won’t go into the device’s headphone port because the case manufacturer didn’t make the cutout large enough to accommodate aftermarket headsets. I don’t care to change my cases very often once I have it on the device, so I find it irritating to have to do so in order to use my favorite headset. Thank you, Seidio for getting that little design spec right! :)

Seidio makes a windowless version of the LEDGER (also with a kickstand) that also comes in Dark Gray and Red, retailing for $39.95, while the LEDGER View retails for $49.95. Hop on over to the Seidio website for more information on the LEDGER Series, or to see what else might be available for your Note 3 or whatever device you might have!

Thanks again, Seidio for your great products and all the support over the years!

My S3 has gone to the races . . .

One of my (few) complaints about my Galaxy S3 since I first got it about 13 months ago is its speed. 3 or 4 months ago I got a Google Nexus 7 that is pretty fast, and when I started using it I realized how slow my S3 really was. If you turned the thing sideways you could take a short nap waiting for the screen to go "landscape". Well, a couple months ago (?) it bricked, and I got a warranty replacement (twice, but that's a different story). The new one, running Android 4.3, is almost as fast as the Nexus and is quite pleasing.

Makes me wonder if the original was a dud all along lol

Still tweaking my set up, but looks pretty cool. Still in beta, so improvements will be made I'm sure.

ROM Managers

I have installed two ROM Managers on my Note, ROM Manager and ROM Toolbox. A lot of this is over my head, but wondering if y'all use either of these or another one and what tips/tricks you might have.

Greenify

What apps are you using this for, or would suggest using it for?

Xposed

I've installed this on my Note. Anybody have tips and tricks they'd care to share and/or post as a sticky for reference?

Nexus Qi Wireless Charger (Google)

Nexus Wireless Charger for Nexus Smartphones/Tablets - Retail Packaging - Black by Google http://ift.tt/1f2mkRz

So I decided I wanted to give wireless charging a try. I scoured eBay and Amazon for days reading review after review. There are under $20 chargers shipped straight from China, and there are $100 ones offered up by Google (Nexus 4 charger) and Nokia among others. Reviews on all are split between "Best ever" to "Junk" for any one you pick.

So, how do you choose?

1st make sure you have a Qi capable device. This will either be built in (Verizon G2) or available with a special battery door or adaptor (S4 for example). This sounds like a no brained 1st step. It apparently isn't based on reviews. Many folks order these thinking it works with any device. If you aren't sure check the web. There are tons of sites with specs for devices.

2nd, budget. There are some good chargers in the $20 range. The biggest difference between most will be speed and styling, including lights/sounds that indicate charging has started or is complete. Constant beeping in the middle of the night could be worth avoiding by spending a few extra bucks. Performance can vary wildly so read multiple reviews. Remember to look for recurring issues across multiple reviews and sites.

So after considerable time I decided to go with the Google charger. One of the biggest reasons were the magnets. The Nexus 5 has 4 magnets under the back cover. These work with the charger to aide in alignment and to secure the phone on the diminutive charger. Its small. No wider than the phone and square. The device sticks to it securely with the aide of the magnets and feels solid. The charger has a tacky bottom that holds to surfaces tight when removing the phone. I'm impressed that you can pick it up one handed.

The second reason is consistency. Reviews mentioned across the board that the charger worked well, worked quickly, and didn't generate heat. Heat and electronics are mortal enemies, so I didn't want to potentially shorten the battery's lifespan using a cheap charger.

The charger itself is a glass topped square. That's it. No lights, no sounds. A minimalistic black square that compliments Googles design perfectly. When you place the Nexus on the charger the phone will give you an audible alert and begin charging. An Xposed module will allow you to customize the sound if you're rooted.

I haven't really timed the charge, but initially it seems about as fast as plugged in, maybe a little slower. Your milage may vary depending on device/battery size.

This is a convenience. Its simple, eliminates fumbling for cords in the dark, but isn't life altering. That being said, more and more devices are including Qi so it could be a bigger deal to have one in the future.

Overall, I recommend the Google charger based on simplicity, magnets, styling, and reliability. Remove the convenience factor and I would give this a 5 star rating.

New ATT Family Value plans!!

I just saved $80 per mo on my ATT bill for signing up with ATT's new Family Value Plan Unlimited Talk/Text and 10gb or more and gained 4 more GB's of data. Everyone who already has ATT, you can just change your plan on your account yourself. Just hoover over wireless in your account and choose change my plan. I chose to backdate it so a credit will appear on my next bill I also verified that it will not renew your contract.. Plus right now if you add a line you get a $100 credit. If you switch from another carrier 4 phones to the family plan, you get the value pricing and $400 credit. Happy Valentine's Day <3

Sprint Galaxy S4

Used S4. Currently rooted with Carbon ROM. Knox tattletale tripped, so if you buy it know Sammy will not offer warranty service, not that the device needs it.

16gb, black. Includes Otterbox Defender Real Tree case, no name glass protector with aluminum home button, a snap on minimal case, and maybe a charger if you ask nicely. :)

Can flash stock TW, not sure why you'd want it. Device is clean, no contract. In excellent condition, pic upon request.

Want $250 +40 for the extras. If you have a nice Nexus 7 will trade. That's all I'm willing to trade for, unless you have something really interesting.

Like my G2, I'm sure I can get an Amen from some folks here so don't sweat a scam. Just need to move on, its been sitting on a shelf since Xmas.

$250 too high? Make an offer. Don't low ball me, I'd rather trade it at GameStop for some PS4 games then sell it and ship for pennies.

NIB Sprint LG G2

I have a brand new unopened LG G2 for Sprint. Asking $350, includes device, snap on Poetic case, unopened iloome FlexGlass screen protector and possibly another case like the Poetic if I can find it.

No pics to post, unless you want a pic of an LG box that doesn't prove much more than I have a box. Think one or two here will vouch for me.

Sell for $350.

Device is free from contract and available for immediate activation. Received as a replacement for defective (well bricked) G2. Never opened, still sealed. I've moved on to a Nexus 5. Also have S4 if interested.

Contact in thread please.

Surface 2 has been cleared by the FAA to be used by Pilots in the cockpit

Well it looks like Apple Ipad is finally getting some competition. It is interesting to note that the Surface 2 not the Surface Pro 2 was approved (maybe the Pro is too powerful), the surface 2 is also cheaper. See the following article, as published on Engadget, must say it is amusing to read the comments and how people are desperate to protect their tablet of choice :D http://ift.tt/1grcZ5y

How to sell my Droid Incredible 2?

So I'm looking to sell my old Droid Incredible 2 which I flashed and rooted, but I'm not sure what it needs done before I try to sell it.

For instance... should I restore it to factory settings so it's no longer flashed and rooted? Or should I leave it as is?

If I should leave it as is, can I wipe it and it still remain flashed and rooted?

I only used it a year or so and it's in perfect working condition. Cosmetically, there is only a small scuff on one corner from the case that was on it, and there's been a screen protector on since day one. Otherwise it's pretty much like new :-)

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, and thanks in advance! :-)

Firefox Beta for Touchscreens

I have been using a Microsoft Surface Pro 2 for a while now and am very happy with it particularly because it not only runs Apps but it also runs Windows programs. As I like to use Firefox for some websites and IE for others I was rather pleased to see that they have released a Beta Touch screen version for Windows 8

I have installed it and so far it is working very well. no crashes yet, and pretty fast plus it is more Pinstack friendly than Explorer

The only little annoyance is it launches on the desktop and then you go to the File menu and relaunch in Touch mode

Meenova Micro SD micro usb adaptor

http://ift.tt/1o348eG

If you have a device with no SD Card slot and are running out of space then this may be for you. Only $12 (+$3 shipping) it adds SD support for certain devices. Check comparability before ordering. I will confirm that the S4, G2, and HTC One work very well. Nexus 5 needed some help in the form of an app or kernel support, and the Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 works well too.

Speeds are quick and the device has been reliable. Root users will be pleased to know that the most updated versions of most recoveries will allow you to back up and restore to this (and other) adaptors.

Its small, comes with a keychain latch as well as a full size USB adaptor. I haven't had any issues using the adaptor with a computer running win 7.

So if you need a hard backup, little more space, pick one up. They come in a few colors and shipping is quick. Can't really go wrong at $15.

iloome ScreenMate Flex Screen Protector

After a few days with the iloome flexglass, I have to say its pretty good.

Looking at the device you'd have no idea its there. That's not an exaggeration. It's edge to edge on the nexus. The only way I realize its on is if I accidentally swipe over the speaker cut out. If you look hard you can see something is there by the cutout but that's because I'm a smidgen off on alignment.

The galss has a tacky feel that is wearing off quickly, leaving a slick feeling of bare glass behind. Overall much better than a plastic protector and nearly identical to bare glass.

I don't recommend for the G2. The G2 has rounded edges where the glass meets the frame. Since its too costly to create a custom rounded edge the iloome stops short of covering the entire screen. I never applied the protector to the device, but just laying it on top it was clear that it would annoy me.

Customer support was good, not great. I'm not thrilled I have to pay return shipping but that's how it is. They were a little slow on getting return authorization but did in the end.

I'll recommend it. Different devices may fit differently so be sure to test before removing the wrapper from it. It comes in a clear plastic baggy that is easy to test without opening. Once you open...its yours unless defective.

Unable to restore BB Z10

One of my users had a broken Z10. As it was still under warranty, I sent it out for repair and we got him all set up on a loaner.

The repaired device has been returned, but when I try to use the "Switch Devices" application in BlackBerry Link, it will not allow me to switch the devices because BlackBerry ID is not set up on the repaired device. When I try to set up the ID on the repaired device I get a message that says "This BlackBerry ID is already in use".

How do I switch devices, or even restore a backup if it won't let me use the BlackBerry ID?

BB 9900 tmobile contacts backup for all contacts lists

Just moved everything to a new 9900. When the contacts transferred from DM, they went to their own list under my Gmail name. Now when tmobile contacts backup syncs, it shows no contacts in the list. Log in to my Tom account and there are no contacts there either.

So how do I get the contacts from one "list" to the BB contacts list, so the tmobile contacts backup will work?

I use DM every week or so, but I really liked having the tmobile sync.

Thanks.

Z10 Call Blocking

Under Settings for the phone, there are a list of things, one of which is Call Blocking. Under Call Blocking you have options to turn on/off Incoming Calls, Outgoing Calls, etc.

When you select an option for the first time, it will ask for a password. Sort of like it is already set. I tried entering 0000 for giggles and it comes back "Call Blocking is not Set. Please try again." You cant leave it blank either.

If you try to change the password, you only get the numbers and A- F.

Anyone get this feature to work?
