Polikarpov Po-2, Kartonowa Kolekcja 3-4/2008, 1:33 scale

Well, it has been five (!) long years since I first purchased this model and wrote a review of it. The review is amazing, not because I wrote it, but because Leif posted a fantastic amount of research to the thread (thanks, Leif!). Many of you are probably aware that Kartonowa Kolekcja published two versions of this Pawel Mistewicz design, the earlier one being an example flown by the "Krakow" Light Night Bombing Regiment (the original of which is in the Polish Aviation Museum), and the later one an example flown by the famous Night Witches. This build will be of the Polish LNB verion; Leif is currently working on a scaled-up 1/16 version of the Night Witches kit.

Work is progressing slowly. I started by laminating printed parts to the laser-cut fuselage formers. Dry fits suggested that the built-up parts will be too thick, so I removed some material from along the joints.

Actual construction began with the cockpit floor and flight controls. I did not encounter any difficulties with this assembly, other than the fact that I hate rolling tiny tubes over and over again. There is, though, a minor error on the parts sheet - the numbers for the front and rear control sticks are switched. The only modification I have made thus far is to add a thumb switch to the pilot's control yoke.

To inspire the occasional tweak to the basic model, I will be using the Po-2 walk-around published by Kagero as part of their Hotshots series. Doesn't hurt that the walk-around features the exact aircraft depicted by the kit.

Cheers!
