SSW R1 Kamplfflieger 1/72nd

All,

My son got me this guy for my last birthday and I figured I'd give it a go. I have a soft spot for these huge German monsters having build the Roden Staaken with much modification several years ago. My intent is the put this one together as a test to see how things fit and then modify it with an interior and clear glazing etc. We'll see how it goes.

So far, things are ok. I did add a balsa spar in the top wing for both shaping an airfoil and to make sure it was flat. I've also adjusted the tabs so that my seams are butted and not overlapping.

A couple of things of note: I have no idea how the front radiator section will go on the nose and actually look nice. I'll need to play with that a bit. Also, the nose section somehow transitions into a square and matches the "B" former you see in the photos. Just trying to figure out the physics of that little operation! And yes...I put the "B" former in upside down, but it's just a rectangle so no real harm done. On to the initial shots!

It's actually quite small in comparison to the Staaken and has a special ugliness all its own! ;) More soon...
