MERCEDES 1500 S Fire Engine - 1:25 - Answer

A hello from the Styria,

After the GoMo it goes now with my new project.
This time it goes back to the road I will build the Mercedes 1500 S fire engine from Answer.
The print is beautiful, but I can not judge whether that is an offset or digital printing.

In addition to 5 pages of picture instructions, there are 8 arches on which about 900 partly very filigree parts are distributed.
* The trailer you see on the front page is also present in the bow.

For the beginning there are times the pictures of the bow,

regards
**************************** Kurt

Camberley model show 2017

Yet again we have been invited to show paper models to the plastic people!

This year it's on Saturday 16 September. Please let me know if you would be interested in bringing along some models or just visiting.

Camberley is just off the M3 so quite central for almost all of southern England It's not far from the M25 so that would cover almost half the country!!!!!

Cheers

Mike

Build your own TDRS Model

Just in time for the PR Department and engineers across the TDRS program to get bored with my pleading requests for clarification and details, the ESC Department announced a challenge for kids to build TDRS.

When I first saw it I was going to cry that I got beat out of another design idea. Then I realized the template provided was definitely a lot more kid friendly than my intended audience.

So, deep breath, TDRS is shaping up. I'm still laying out the design. the Bus and PVA are complete. I'm designing the PVAs to be sandwiching a single piece of cardboard that will be cross linked through the bus to prevent dramatic sagging. I hope prototyping will bear the plan out. Now I'm laying out the single access antennas and next will be struts.

Scale? 1:25 Go big or go home right? We'll see if it comes together. The scale in this picture is definitely off, but I wanted to show it kind of "together."

Hope you're looking forward.

Swiss ME-109 from Marek Classics in 1/50 scale

I finally finished this model. I started it some three years ago or so but then got side tracked. I actually had the half finished model sitting around all this time and had the uncut parts hidden away. I actually found them! I didn't have to reprint a thing!

The colors are a bit fade but otherwise it came out really good. I had fun with this one. Then and now. And it went together pretty well. So now it is added to my small collection of ME-109 variants.

I hope to find time to build more Models by Marek!

You can get yours in 1/50 scale here:

Jacques Cousteau's Calypso

This is a build of Jacques Cousteaus Calypso research ship.

The original kit was published in Spain, given as a gift to the buyers of the first issue
of the collectable encyclopedia "Los Secretos del Mar" ("Secrets of the Sea")
probably by the end of 1982 or the beginning of 1983.

You can find several photos of the original release following this link:
http://ift.tt/2oniDzs

It is a very simple design, with some 34 parts spread over 4 sheets. The graphics are simple,
and the colors are very basic. Some small parts are duplicated in case the builder makes mistakes.

The finished model is 42 cm long, and almost 8cm wide. Which makes the scale of the kit 1:100
and represents the ship as it was in the early 1980s.

The Calypso as I received it came loose and without instructions. After some search
on the web I found the parts pages came originally in a kind of heavy cardstock
protective folder with information, and very general instructions along with the photo
of an assembled prototype. That reference photo shows what could be the beta model,
with slightly different graphics and some of the parts developed very differently
to what is provided in the final kit.

There is certain chaos in parts numbering, and no clue whatsoever on the building order.
Some fold lines are missing, and many of the placement marks for the sub-assemblies
are just wrongly sized or placed (if they exist at all). It is better to double and triple-check before gluing.
And even after making sure of the fit, it will not always result in a good build.

The pages of the Calypso are 52X23 cm (about 20X9 inches). I scanned the Calypso at 600 dpi,
and re-arranged the parts to fit double-letter size. However, the two longest parts of the hull
and main deck had to be cut because they didn't fit the 11X17 paper. I printed in laser,
and cut the new copy to preserve the original.

I got this kit earlier this year in a very unusual exchange with a peculiar person who is
remembered in my city for his less than honest ways in his now-closed model shop,
and who back in the 80s and 90s pirated and sold many recolored Maly and Geli kits under his own brand.
After a couple of weeks of acting and cheating to lure him I got some interesting original printed kits
and he got nothing useful (I gave him a heavily distorted, cropped, altered, incomplete and impossible to build
scan of a kit he was looking for). I confess I felt absolutely no shame in lying to this pirate to get what I wanted.
(Hello Edubarca, I know youre reading).

So, thanks to that one-in-a-lifetime chance, I got the sheets of the Calypso,
along with a rare 1986 gas station giveaway of a simple Williams FW11, and an even rarer
Colombian reprint (in Spanish) of the classic and well-known GULF giveaway of the
Lunar Landing Module.

I will probably share the build of the other kits in the future too. By the time being,
lets dive into the Calypsos kit.

Images talk louder than words. So here are some photos.

The kit itself falls in a middle ground between unusually designed and naively charming.
I won't dare to say it's bad or ugly. Because it isn't, given it's origins and limitations.
And actually, the 10-year old me finds it nice and exciting. But the experienced modeler in me
regrets not having a more modern and better designed kit.
Given the very few options available, I should be happy it exists at all.

Parts are very simple. The hull is built in an unusual way. And weirdest of all, after the hull is completed
you have to cut some extra paper under it.

There is a serious fitting problem when installing the main deck. Worried there was
some kind of distortion when I scanned I checked against the original kit,
but the parts were the same. So it is a native defect.

Most of the small parts are super simple. Theyre great for practice. Or for a young/novice modeler.

I didnt quite like the design of the towers and how theyre attached
to the other main structure (Im really sorry Im ignorant on ships terminology).
They look strange. You can also see some warping on the deck. Maybe my mistake when attaching it.
The handrail of the upper deck has very serious fitting problems. I had to trim and cut
more than I expected to make it barely usable. And you have to cut some slots
(not marked anywhere) to place it.

The observation pod is designed in 2-D on the kit, and there is an additional part to make a 3-D version.
I went the three-dimensional way, and it proved to be a huge esthetic mistake as youll see later.

Generic Monster Truck Tires

Hi all,

Is there a designer who could design a generic set of Monster Truck Tires?
similar to these

The US size is 66x43 inches, 66 tall, 43 wide
I am looking for scale of 1:100, anything large is fine too, i will scale down.

I could use what is out there, but I find those which are out there to be cartoon-y

Hope you can help me out

Rick

Spent a day at the Battleship USS IOWA (BB-61)

https://youtu.be/cNqxI_luPJ8

Spent a day at the Battleship USS IOWA (BB-61) . That was so much to see I'm like a kid in the candy store, Looking and touching history, soo cool! The coolest thing is I got a piece of the original wood deck to keep! If that piece of the deck can talk, think of the actions it witness, stories it can tell....

And I am so sorry, my phone battery die..... can't video the back of the ship. :p
I must apologize for the lousy job I did. It was not intended for public viewing but for my personal reference. But I decided to share it anyway for the fun of it. So nothing was planned head everything was an afterthought. There are some nice shots... one... or maybe two, hope you enjoy it. :D

Thank you very much for watching!
Because moving pictures are more fun to look at.
Do check out my other videos.
Please remember to click "like" on Youtube if you like it, comments and feedback are most welcome.

Happy Birthday Vahmp

Dear Vahmp:
Happy Birthday to you and may you just be able to make paper models all day long.
Enjoy,

Okinawan Shisa 2 (Legendary Guardian Beast/Lion Dog) Build

See thread "Okinawan Shisa (Legendary Guardian Beast/Lion Dog) Build" for more kit/build info :)

Some pictures I would like to show II

Sitting with my son Emiel behind his Mac we created these pictures. First he photographed my paper models under every thinkable angle. Usually I 'invent' a situation and he fairs the images with Photoshop. Sometimes it needs 20 layers to get the job done.
We will probably present more old master seascapes later. Finding skies and waves or a view of Spitsbergen is a lot easier than making pictures with originally old looking landscapes with buildings in it. But they will come too, in due time. I intend to print them poster format on canvas and use them as paintings on the wall.

Attachment 311581 Attachment 311582

A suggestion for fellow builders: I bought a glass showcase at IKEA for 50 Euros and hung it on the wall of my hall. It's a pleasure to look at and the models do not collect any dust.

Attachment 311583 (I don't know why this picture can only be viewed horizontally. Admin?)

In the mean time I am making slow progress with the small fluit (ghost ship), the Storck pinas and a wide ship, of which I will soon show the present state. Due to the surgery on my back I cannot sit for a long time working on the models, so we are progressing much slower than I wish. On the other hand it allows me to think of other projects and plans.
