My lovely wife gave me the model "Build the Titanic" last Christmas, and it's next in the shipyard once the Gkid's Christmas presents are done. The kit is Chinese made, printed on a gloss finish paper, similar to a thick type magazine cover. It is 27" long, which I calculate as roughly 1/250 scale.
Here's the problem: The hull sides were cut from one piece of stock, then folded to fit into the box. Since it is the heavy gloss stock, the crease amidship and across the decks are very noticeable. The book that came with it is copyright 2011, first edition, so it's possible the paper has been folded like this for 4 years. I don't think simply laying it flat under weighted books will help, and so I want to get some opinions on what else to try.
Second question: what type of glue would anyone recommend to assemble?
The instructions say "fast drying epoxy, diluted to 70% glue/30% water."
I have NO idea what kind of glue they are talking about. Although I haven't tried it yet, I am not real confident that white PVA glue would stick to the gloss stock. And I'm afraid of what Superglue would do to the printed finish.
Any input welcome.
