Since it was necessary to cancel our cruise on the Baltic Sea last month, due to my wife's health problems, I decided to stop working on models that we would have seen on that trip - mainly Gdansk. Instead I decided to build some of the 50+ models that I have not made of places that we have already visited. I used a very scientific method of choosing which kit to build next. I have all of my unmade models in file folders in alphabetical order in a file box. The method is to close my eyes and waved my hand over the box and pull out a folder.
The lucky winner was the Hohenschwangau Palace in Germany. The model is a Schreiber Bogen kit. We visited Hohenschwangau in 2007 on our German Cathedralquest. I also have the model of Neuschwanstein which is located nearby. I made this model before visiting the Castle. You can read about our two days with these two castles on my webpage - Our 2007 Cathedralquest to experience cathedrals in Germany,Day 12 from Lindau to Hohenschwangau. Also look at the next day for Neuschwanstein Palace. You can also read the history on that page.
The model of Hohenschwangau was rather straightforward with good directions and helpful photos. It was a lot of fun to build since we had spent a lot of time there. I keep saying to myself that it was a happy model to build. I smiled a lot during the construction.
After the International Paper Modelers Convention on November 7 & 8 in Sterling, Virginia, I will resume making models for our next adventure. We are thinking about delaying the Baltic Sea cruise for a year and going to Istanbul and Athens this coming spring instead. I have downloaded from Canon the Blue Mosque and the Parthenon. Does anyone know of any other models for Turkey and Greece? I saw a photo on the Internet of a model of the entire Acropolis but could not find out any information about it. Has anyone seen this model.
Using the same scientific method, I am ready to start on another interesting place that we visited. Surprise!!
